Lincoln Olsen's Online Review Report Card

Dr. Olsen is a very good, very knowledgeable provider. He explains things in terms you can understand. He is patient with you. His office staff however is the reason I feel I need to leave the practice even though I really do not want to leave. I won't go into detail here but it got really bad recently. I have never been able to pay through the portal and have heard quite a few people say the same ...

We have been very pleased with Dr. Olsen. He found out the cause of my mother's pain when her previous urologist couldn't. Very professional and have now switched to just him.

My husband was referred here from SCCH. The next morning, after in the ER half the night, I called to set up the appt. Was told the scheduler would call me back. Someone calls back and says I am filling out the referral papers and our scheduler will call you back. This was Tuesday morning. By Tuesday evening I called his family physician for another referral. Went to Wytheville today (Friday) and the urologist informs us if we don't get the stones out (one being too large to pass) then it can lead to kidney failure. He could have done the lithotripsy yesterday but now he has to wait until this Thursday for the lithotripsy machine and pray one does not get lodged. Never even heard back from this office and my husband was sent home from SCCH with a catheter strapped to his leg for 5 days already.

I just had an appt with Dr. Olsen and in the 4 years I've been seeing him he is one of the best out there. I had a major urologist in Los Angeles and he was first rate but I think Dr. Olsen is a more through physician I can't tell you how at 79 I feel he has me covered. I also love the office and the staff. Truly first rate!

Normally, I only leave 5-star reviews and ignore the negatives but people need to be told what this doctor is like. I got him when referred to his clinic. His bedside manner is not the best, but oh well. I was there for kidney issues, not warm fuzzies. He is very unapproachable, and even in serious follow-up, has staff call who cannot even answer questions! After nearly dying in WI in 2015 of sepsis from a stone, this doctor did two lithotripsies on me in TN in 2019 and 2020 and follow-ups did not even include blood draws for kidney function, etc. I was told they do not do that. His care and communication the entire time was less than desirable and do not even get me started on the office staff there. Terrible, just terrible. I do not have enough space left to address that. Read other people's comments! Also, I tried to tell him I had a sepsis building again after the second lithotripsy and he dismissed that. I ended up in ICU a few months later with kidney sepsis! STAY AWAY!

The only reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 is because wait time can be long but I only have the highest regard for Dr Olsen. He did surgery for prostate cancer 2 years ago. I am now cancer free doing great! Wait time could possibly be due to the individualized attention you receive from all the staff. Frank Reece

Only giving them a 5 star rating so that what I'm about to write is seen!!! Please take the time to read this. I dont want anyone else to endure what my husband has!!!! I know its not a short post. But I'm hoping to help someone else.!! June 2017, my husband went to the emergency room, where he had a abscess, in which they drained. After draining it, they tried to put in a Foley tube. In which they didn't succeed so then they put in a suprapubic catheter. Then proceeding to tell my husband that his case was to complex for them to handle, and that he needed to go to a specialist in Knoxville. So we did, now giving you the short version of the story. The doctor in Knoxville ran test and ended up doing a urethroplasty(the rebuilding of the uretha) in October! He was doing great was using the bathroom with no problems at all. Then the end of January 2018, he couldn't go to the bathroom. So we called his doctor in Knoxville, where his doctor told him that he should go to the er and have a suprapubic catheter placed. So we did so, we acutally went to the emergency room in kingsport, where they said they couldnt do anything. Because his bladder scan didnt show much urine in his bladder, but if he still wasnt going to the bathroom to then come back. So we went home, here in Johnson City. The next day his stream was little to nothing, so thats when we came to the e.r. at franklin woods. They said that Urology wanted him kept, and that they would put in a catheter tomorrow. So they kept him over night. When doing so my husband talked to dr. Olsen before they took him down to the O.R. He then explained to Olsen that his doctor on Knoxville wanted a suprapubic catheter placed. From where my husband had just had a urethroplasty done in October, and that's why the suprapubic needed to be placed. Dr Olson then explained that they were going to put in a Foley catheter regarding doctor Lacy's wishes. Now the day the surgery to place the catheter was preformed was a Tuesday (2-1-2018). He has been bleeding for the site of the catheter since then, and having discharge. Today a week later, he is being admitted into the hospital for an infection. After going back to Franklin Woods twice The Med Center once and them not doing anything and Dr. Olsen not coming to either emergency rooms to check on my husband. He's been in excruciating pain and they keep telling him that he's cleared to go home but yet the urologist won't come and see him. We have a appointment on the 7th with him at his office, I will post another review, to keep yall up-to-date on this.

First impressions of Dr. Olsen – friendly, effecient, to the point. I recently had multiple urinary infections and was refered to his office. CT scan confirmed a bladder stone. So, it needs to come out, and while we're in there and I've got BPH so it's hard to empty my bladder, let's do a roto-rooter on the old prostate. Do the surgery, walk around with a catheter for a week (no fun) then get it pulled. So far, so good. After a week of peeing blood and it's starting to sting I call (Wednesday) and leave a message with Dr. Olsen's nurse – no reply. The next day I call first thing in the morning – no reply so I go to the clinic and camp out on their doorstep. Glory be, I get to see Dr. Olsen's nurse. She says the bleeding is not that unusual and takes asks me for a urine sample. She also says she will send the sample to the lab and it will take a few days to get back a result. Alright, I've got to live with this till Monday. Monday comes and goes – no phone call from the nurse. Tuesday I call to see what's going on and have to leave a message for Dr. Olsen's nurse. After two hours of no reply I drive over to the clinic and camp out on their doorstep again because she either ignores her voicemail or her voicemail is a black hole from which no messages ever emerge. Dr. Olsen's nurse tells me they haven't heard from the lab (six days since I gave the sample) and we'll just have to wait. Wednesday (a week from my first attempt to contact Dr. Olsen's nurse) the pain is getting progressively worse. Around 1 PM I get two back to back messages on my answering machine. First message – ah, the lab can't find your sample (and the first they know about it is SIX days after it was given). Second message – the doctor ordered an antibiodic ON HOLD but we need a local pharmacy to contect to fill the prescription. "The doctor ordered an antibiodic ON HOLD"! Since when? Was the order written when I had my surgery, when I had my catheter pulled, when I first had to camp on their doorstep because they don't return calls, or in the five minutes between the nurse's first and second calls on Wednesday. I've got a surgery followup the end of August. After that I'm through with these folks!

Dr. Olsen is pretty good but his staff... His nurse won't return phone calls. The only way to get her attention is to actually go to the clinic. Then after another WEEK waiting for urine test results to confirm an infection (because they won't do anything until they know what the infection is), sorry but the lab seems to have misplaced your sample. No returned phone calls, lost test samples, who's running this zoo?
