List of Selman Welt's Reviews
In May of 1986 I'd just turned 7 mths in my first pregnancy. I was toxic for some reason it didn't show until I had a very serious seizure. The protein then did show. I was the sickest I had ever been . He saved my and my 2 lb son. My son is highly intelligent and is a very successful attorney in Virginia and TN. I got pregnant again 12 yrs later, and toxic again. I had hoped I could see him again. I found out he had left and was in TX. I then went to Dr. Lauder. I was scared to death. He knew I was and sent for my record at JC. After that he was to as well as his whole office. My second son is 23 and is great. However I am not. He told to never do it again. I'm so happy I did. Dr.Welt told me it would catch up to me. I have serious seizures. Wouldnt change a thing. He's a great Dr. and tells it like it is. .
Dr. Welt took his time to explain things to me and made sure I had all my questions answered before he left the room. Wonderful bedside manner and a caring disposition.
Dr. Welt does not sugar coat situations and is particularly good with drug addicted pregnant women. He is a straight shooter and extremely knowledgeable in the field of High Risk Prenatal and Fetal Medicine.
This has to be the rudest man who ever practiced medicine. He had me in tears after the visit by telling me I was wasting his time trying to have the baby! If I had any proof other than my own words I would file for and push for him to lose his license!
It was 27 years ago & he was the most wonderful Dr. I have ever had.
Our daughter found out she was pregnant at age 14 years and 7 months, when she was already 2 1/2 months pregnant. She is epileptic and on some pretty strong medicines that could cause all kinds of severe problems for her and the baby and the damage already being done by the time you would get a positive pregnancy test. Anything from low birth weight, birth defects, miscarriage with hemorrhage, to worse (that we don't even speak of!). She picked her OB/GYN that she loved and felt very comfortable with, Dr. Amy Carrillo at Johnson City OB/GYN, but she had to see a high risk Dr also. She was sent to Dr. Welt and was very upset, thinking that she could no longer see Dr. Carrillo. Dr. Welt not only treated her as any other patient (despite her age), he made her comfortable, listened to her concerns, and answered each and every question she had. He also respected her already built relationship with Dr. Carrillo and worked with her on my daughter's case, even though she was in a different practice/office. From the beginning he told her everything that could happen, good and bad, during this pregnancy, with her and the baby. He explained every test and procedure that she had. From the first appointment he scheduled to see her every 3 weeks at first, with an ultrasound every month to keep a check on the baby to stay ahead of anything that came up that could be treated or prevented, then at 6 months Mommy and baby were looking and doing so good that he "released" Mommy unless complications arose later but continued to keep a check on baby by ultrasound every month although everything was right on schedule and appeared perfectly normal. He has assured my daughter that he will be attending her labor and baby's birth to back-up Dr. Carrillo should something go wrong with either of them (high risk of seizure activity during labor and delivery) and do everything he can to send a happy and healthy Mommy and son home from the hospital. She is 32 weeks right now and expected to deliver any day (early because of her age, size, and the medicines she is on), so I will update after it is over. But even if, God forbid, something were to go wrong and I have sad news to report, Dr. Welt is a magnificent Dr who did everything he could from one end to the other and every where in between and my daughter would not describe him any other way. He's been practicing for 41 years, licensed to practice medicine in 7 states, has numerous awards & distinctions, and is registered as a full professor at 2 medical universities, you would be hard pressed to find another Dr with the experience and knowledge that Dr. Selman Welt has nor a better one overall!
Horrible Man. Told us our child would most likely die, and if it didn't die would need a transplant. Told us that if it needed a transplant it would die anyway because no one wants to donate infant organs. Then he left the room without fanfare. Guess what? I now have a healthy 9 month old. If you are unfortunate enough to have encountered this unpleasant man, get a second opinion quickly.
I did not schedule to see him but somehow the clinic arranged me to see him. Based on his attitude and little time he spent on looking at the ultrasound images, I don't trust any thing he said. Of course, I need to pay him no matter whether he did a good job. That is our medical system. You can return a one dollar junk you buy at Walmart and get the refund. But for a hundreds or thousands doctor, no matter how bad he is, you can never get the refund.
Meanest man ever!
Dr. Welt should not be in medicine. Worst OBGYN ever

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
