I have been going to Dr. Poortenga for years. She is a compassionate, comprehensive doctor. She incorporates a holistic approach in her care, but obviously knows all traditional means to evaluate and treat. She recommended I take glucosamine years ago for my joints, way before it was trendy. For example: for stress, she may recommend a relevant book to read and provide you with literature for certain exercises, along with a medication. She doesn't take insurance, but is very reasonable. I pay $40 a month, and a $20 copay for each visit. She is very realistic in her approach, listens great and includes your concerns into her treatment.

Very nice doctor and extremely knowledgeable. She definitely keeps up with her profession. The only possible negative thing is she does not take insurance. However, she has affordable plans available and her fees are very reasonable for a PCP.

Five members of my family have been patients of Dr. Poortenga's for over 20 years. From birth to age 50. Never have I felt rushed. She listens, cares about the 'whole' person, and is very practical. I've always found her staff to be competent and helpful as well.

I've never had any problems like the ones others have stated. The staff & nurses have always been very friendly and helpful to me. I call & get answers to questions I have & if I leave a message someone always calls me back. I've been a patient with Dr Poortenga for a long time and she never feels rushed to me. She does have other patients but she has always taken the time and explained things to me.

My mother has been going to her for many years and I think along with my mom that shes awesome. My mom always feels so good when she leaves her office. Thank you Dr. Poortenga for taking such good care of my mom. I live in Arizona and it a great comfort to know she has a caring Dr.

Dr. Poortenga has being our family MD for serveral yrs. You couldn't ask for a better MD. She Listens and is very concerned. We are usually in and out within a hour.

Dr. Poortenga has been my doctor a few years now. The wait time in the room is one hour or longer. Then she stays in the room for 1 minute and 45 seconds. She does not listen or cares about her patients. Lately, when I have needed her care she tells me "I cannot help you since you do not have insurance." I will be finding a new doctor for my family. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone.

Many times over the years I have seen this office go above and beyond for getting you in and taking good care of you. They treat the whole patient and family. Could not ask for more.

excellant family physician. Does not automatically presribe meds and when does starts with lowest dosage. Takes time to listen. Staff very good, friendly. This physician is what a good GP should be.
