Laura Stewart's Online Review Report Card

I have been seeing Dr. Stewart for 18 years (since birth) and have had absolutely no concerns about her. She has been absolutely wonderful and so knowledgeable around my medical condition. When adjusting dosages of the medications they always worked well with me and it was exactly what my body needed. When I needed surgery for my condition she was brilliant in referring me to the best specialist I could have gotten. Every time I've seen her for appointments and also for phone call appointments, she has been very knowledgable and truly cared about what I was doing and how I was doing. I will definitely miss when I age out of her care and need to be transferred to an adult specialist.

I would not call this person a doctor. She is completely unhelpful and ignores any problems. During the visits, we were lied to and mislead about the most basic aspects of our childs health.

This doctor has literally ruined my life. She dismissed my concerns as a teenager and I'm still dealing with the issues well into adulthood. I would ask for a second opinion if you/your child have real concerns. She does not consider the mental/emotional aspects of her patient's concerns. I feel robbed and severly effected by my most formative years.

We've seen Dr.Stewart for the last 3 years and she has been great with follow through- as well as explaining what was going on/listening to what my concerns were. She is quick (especially on the phone for a few questions) but almost all our specialists are.

Dr Stewart saw my son over 4 years for his growth. Despite him being T the 0 percentile on the growth chart she refused to put him on growth hormones stating the tests are normal. We discussed with her the mental and social affects despite the tests being "normal". She refused to place him.on any medication or treatment, often just leaving the room and leaving us without discussing our concerns. Today my son has body dysmorphia. I find it interesting that they refuse to place children on growth hormones to assist with height development but the are eager to give trans gender children all the hormones they like at much younger age then my son was. This doctor should not be practicing let alone be the head of any department.

My 5yr old was diagnosed with type 1. After initial visit, we emailed numerous times and called as we wanted our son to get a CGM. One month went by and not a single email replied. Unprofessional. If you are in this field of work and you are getting paid quite well then DO YOUR JOB. Help patients and their families. Switched to another Dr.

Dr Stewart only cares about lab results. Condescending, uncaring manner. Our young child is really struggling, we are very concerned. She comes in for 2 minutes, says everything is fine, because lab results are in range. Says none of our concerns are possibly connected to the medical condition and won’t even discuss them. We will not be back and will be making a complaint.

we saw Dr. Steward for years for my son's growth specially his height and she said she can do 3 testosterone shot to speed up his growth and we said great let's do it. She didn't do it and said she will wait and monitor his growth before doing that. 4 years later after visiting her every 6 months, when my son turned 17 years old she said they can't do anything and my son's bones have fused and he won't grow any taller. we learned later that the testosterone shots help before the puberty is complete but she didn't do it while the whole purpose of our visits was that. I will never forgive her for her oversight and carelessness because it has a negative impact my son's whole life and we lost that precious time by trusting her.

We have seen Dr Stewart once, and spoken on the phone several times for dose changes. We will be changing doctors as soon as we can get a new referral. While she did respond promptly after blood tests, she was not willing to listen to our concerns about how our child was feeling. When his medication was too high she would not give him a new prescription, he had to feel awful for weeks and test high, though as parents we had seen it coming long before and requested a change. I'm sure she is very knowledgable, but she didn't seem to care at all about how her young patient was feeling, or about our past experience in treating his condition. Disappointed.

Dr. Stewart was my childhood endocrinologist at Children's until I turned 18 and was transferred to VGH. Throughout the years as her patient I found her to be impersonal and clinical in her manner. This was particularly difficult for me as a quiet, shy child, as I never felt a particular level of trust or understanding with her. This was not an ideal situation because I have Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, which affects sex hormones and as a result there were always questions about puberty and the like. As a shy child being treated by an impersonal doctor, this made checkups always uncomfortable and I never enjoyed being there. On several occasions a resident doctor would meet me first. I recall that one resident, a male, seemed so disinterested in his work that he was not making eye contact with me and was twirling his pen while asking me questions about my menstruation. His lack of caring while asking such personal questions was an upsetting experience for me as young teenager. After this incident I refused all future requests to meet with the resident doctors there. I did not understand much about my health condition as a child due to Dr. Stewart's lack of interest in helping me learn about it. I have a far better endocrinologist now at VGH who is very sweet, helpful, and takes her time with me to make sure I understand everything. I only wish she had been at Children's as she would be a much better asset than Stewart to the children, particularly those children who experience anxiety at the doctor's office, or anxiety as a result of their condition.
