Jay Young's Online Review Report Card

He is an excellent doctor who takes the patients seriously. He is extremely thorough in making a diagnoses. Friendly and down to earth, he is very nice and caring doctor.

Dr Young saved my life..

Without a doubt, this was the worst Doctor's appointment I have ever had. A total of over 3 hours of waiting in the waiting room, exam room, talk with the PA. Came it at 9 AM. Moved to exam room 2 hours later, didn't see the Doctor until 12 noon. Didn't speak with him, only his PA. She said they would only do a Hemorrhoidal surgery if I had a colonoscopy first, and then come back later to remove the Hemorrhoid. Claim they do colonoscopy's every 5 years. AMA reccomends every 10 years. If over 75 none at all. I am 77, would have to do 2 seperate procedures and they wouldn't do both together. My wife was a 45 year RN in the OR working in the Endoscopy department. There Colon Rectal Doctors did both at the same time, so the patient wouldn't have to go under gas twice. There reccomendations are highly questionable and not cost effective. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND THIS DOCTOR OR HIS PA TO ANYONE. THE DOCTOR ONLY CAME IN TO DO THE EXAM, AND LEFT.

Dr young is one of the best colon and Rectal Doctors in East Tn. Before meeting Dr young I had went to a doctor that really messed me up after a bad childbirth before going to dr young I had went to the Mayo Clinic Vanderbilt and the Cleveland clinic. That was in 1996 when I had my child . All said that I would have to have a colostomy bag.but I didn’t want that so I came back to Tennessee and saw dr young well I have had to have several major surgeries. I have had not one infection and it’s been 26 years and no colostomy bag. He is the very best he is kind caring understanding and most of all he listens and he will try to do everything in his power to do what’s best for you. When we met I felt like I had known him forever . I trust and have the upmost respect for him he not just a doctor to me he feels like family to me. If you want a great caring doctor then Dr Jay young is you guy!

Aggressive, dismissive and negative. Always get a second opinion.

I had a colonoscopy and fistula operation back to back. A couple of days later I was in intensive care unit of hospital for 6 days getting 5 units of blood. Dr showed little interest and stated he didn't understand why I was bleeding . Ole doctor, I rate you poorly

I wish more people would give real reviews, even negative ones. If they had, maybe I wouldn't have nearly died because of Jay Young. Oh, don't get me wrong, he's a very skilled surgeon, but his follow through with me, and at least two other patients (whose families I have met) have had very bad consequences. In my case, I nearly died. In those two other patients cases, per their families, they did die. I ended up with an infection in my incision, and Young chose to ignore every objective sign, and every clear symptom of that in favor of telling me I was addicted to pain meds, despite the fact I wasn't taking them nearly as often as I could, despite the fact I had a hole so big in my belly that my 6'5 husband could fit his hand in it, while packing it 2 times a day. By the time he finally readmitted me to the hospital, telling me that my insurance probably wouldn't cover it, because I really wasn't that sick, and despite the fact that I had a second infection hole open in my incision that very morning. Anyway, that evening, I was admitted, a nurse told my husband my potassium was so low they didn't know how I hadn't had a heart attack. The next night, I went into hypovolemic shock. That means all the blood loss from surgery, and the wounds in my belly sent me into shock, and I needed an emergency blood transfusion. The hospitalist also realized I was septic, and in kidney failure. It was the hospitalist who saved my life, not Young. If it was up to young, I'd have died, from any one of those four conditions. I've suffered this past year so much because he let that infection get so far out of control that I nearly died. I had to spend a week in ICU, another week in the hospital, and three weeks in a nursing home. And the kicker... The whole time Young was telling me I wasn't sick, I didn't have a fever (it was 101, but they don't consider it a fever until 102) and my white blood cell count wasn't high, he *knew* I had an infection. My first visit to the ER at Tennova, Turkey Creek, they did a culture on the fluid coming from the wound. The results were given directly to the ER, AND Young. I had MRSA, and the culture said what antibiotic it was susceptible to. They never let me know, they never put me on it. They neglected me so severely that I nearly died. My story is so much more horrific than I can post here. I have graphic pictures I can't post here. I am going to find a way to document this all online to earn others about Dr. Young. If only I would have known... Go to Dr. Young with your eyes wide open. There are far better Colorectal doctors who pay attention to ALL aspects of your care.

I started seeing Dr. Young at the lowest part of my life. God and he saved my life. I love him!
