List of Matthew Neal's Reviews
Dr Neal operated on my spine at two different levels---both were extremely successful. He was meticulous in evaluating my problem (pressure on spinal nerve), also in following up after the surgeries. He really cares about his patients.
I am willing to travel to where ever you are at! Please contact us, ASAP. Your expertise is desperately needed.
Where are you?
Dr. Neal did 2 surgeries in 2 days on me I was in really bad pain have been for years had spine surgery and 2 wedges put at L5/S1 and L4/L5 pain is gone been 5 months and I feel great this was a very complicated surgery on my spine and came out perfect pain is gone completely! Thank you Dr. Neal and team
I went to see Dr. Neal for a second opinion, which I gladly took due to its focus on minimally invasive principles over more extensive and possibly unnecessary surgical procedures. He later performed a laminectomy that both relieved symptoms and also allowed me to return to numerous athletic activities. Although the Mayo Clinic presented its challenges, especially due to my out-of-state status, I was over all very pleased with the experience and my personal health outcome. I highly recommend Dr. Neal.
Based on Dr. Neal’s apparent kindness and his clearly knowledgeable comments during preliminary appointment, we decided to accept his offer to perform what was planned as a three-level laminectomy and fusion. The operation was well-planned, with my wife’s and my close work to support- where to stay, how long after before travel. etc. Day before; had final xrays, blood and Covid tests, and meets with the anesthesist Dr Smith and with Dr Neal. On day of, the surgery started at about 7, after 1-1/2 hours of dress-out, intubation, and meeting the surgical team. Lorraine, Gloria, Ken, and all gave one the feeling they were a team as well as each an expert in their field. I heard later the sugery went a few minutes longer than planned, and also was told by Dr Neal that he had found the nerves at lowest level to be better than previously shown in MRI. with that, the last level was left unfused. (OK by me!) The post-op nursing staff was also excellent, helping me walk each day before release
Dr. Neal cleaned up my L4 vertebrae as I was having sciatic pain in both legs. Very positive and professional experience.
Dr. Neal reviewed my spine x-rays with me, explaining how the procedure he was to perform would be done and indicating it on my x-ray so that I understood perfectly what was going to be done. It was an out-patient surgery and I was given clear instructions to follow before and after the surgery. A day later I was free of pain for the first time in months. Dr. Neal took as much time as I needed to feel comfortable having the surgery. I would highly recommend him to anyone and would return to him if I ever needed spine surgery again. His bedside manner is excellent and he is very kind.
After several weeks of excruciating pain, Dr. Neal diagnosed me and within 2 weeks, I had surgery whereby my L4 and L5 were fused with 2 posts and a plate in between. After 2 days in the hospital and then home care, lots of walking and physical therapy, I was back to my old self in 3 months. Dr.Neal is an incredible surgeon and he has the nicest personality as well! I highly recommend him!
Dr. Neal performed my L4L5 fusion and also my L2L3 micro discectomy. Both were done with minimally invasive techniques. Recovery has been fairly quick with no complications and I am pain free. Dr. Neal explains the surgery well and answers thoroughly any questions I have had. I have complete confidence in his skills and am so grateful to have found him and Mayo Clinic!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
