Anita Varma's Online Review Report Card

Okay, so she’s the only psychiatrist at V.&S. who’ll see adults. “AS” an adult, who knows which medications have helped over the last 35 years, as well as the ones that have almost cost me my life, THIS lady decided AGAINST reading over the questionnaire that SHE MADE ME FILL OUT, and then went on to give me a mood stabilizer my questionnaire clearly stated I was highly sensitive to in a bad way, and then ORDERED ME to QUIT TAKING A BENZODIAZEPINE I HAVE BEEN TAKING FOR CLOSE TO 30 YEARS? The mood stabilizer in question ACTUALLY CAUSES MAJOR PANIC, and I suffer from PANIC DISORDER. I told her that if she truly wanted me to discontinue the one medication that helped me from taking my life, I would need her help, as I’ve taken them for so long I would more than likely need to be admitted into inpatient care. This so-called doctor told me to just break the left over pills I’d been prescribed by a doctor I no longer see, and I should be just fine… HUH??? I FIRED THAT PHYSICIAN, AND MY PHARMACIST WAS WAITING FOR ME TO TURN THOSE LEFT OVER BENZODIAZEPINES IN TO BE DESTROYED, AS IT IS TOTALLY ILLEGAL TO TAKE THAT TYPE IF MEDICATION WHEN ITS BEEN 3 MINTHS SINCE I RECEIVED A ONE MONTH SUPPLY!! It is my opinion that Dr. Varma learns Tennessee prescribing laws, learns how to HELP the people coming to her FOR help, instead of brushing this off and making excuses simply in order to give herself an “out”. She’s THE most in compassionate psychiatrist I think I’ve ever met. Dr. Varma, you have so very much to learn about this profession. I scored over a 50 on your “quiz”, and you dismissed my life as easily as you would a piece of bruised fruit at Kroger. SHAME ON YOU! I’m now paying one of the top ten rated psychiatrists in the city, and he IMMEDIATELY admitted me inpatient after he saw what you had done. Again, you should be extremely ashamed,!& please understand that you have earned a call to Nashville. So, try and wriggle out. I have photos of each page I filled out, and that’s in my patient file my psychiatrist will be turning over for me.

Dr. Varna is an incredible, caring doctor. I have gone to her for years, and she always takes the time to help me with my needs. She does NOT just write prescriptions. She makes sure she follows my growth, and is there for me when any changes in my medicine needs to take place. Her office staff is always kind and helpful. I am so fortunate to find a doctor who truly cares about my well being.

I picked 1 star because 0 isn't an option. Dr. Anita S.Varma started out to be a good choice however over time she changed and became verbally abusive towards me. If I felt sad or depressed she would just say ( it is what it is.) So not helpful. She then began to lie to me and to the front desk employees about me. She lied about her business hours twice, she lied about telling me the front desk workers don't know what they're doing. The office workers have always been super nice to me. She lied to Sue about her behavior. I truly deeply wish I had recorded the past 2 appointments with her. Then everyone would believe me instead of making me feel worse like they did today. Won't be going back but I know it will make her happy because she doesn't help with anything. Quick to write a prescription because that's all she knows how to do except for the times she can't figure out how to make the computer work. Then she's totally useless. She would make me wait an hour or longer after my appointment time. I asked her about it and her whole attitude changed. Told me to go somewhere else because she can't help me. When you have mental health issues I feel the Dr should help you work through it but I left as a broken down person because of her actions and words. That's the opposite of what she's supposed to be there for. # feeling super depressed 😞

I love Dr. Varma, I’ve been a patient for 12 years and she is the best Dr. I’ve even been to, I highly recommend Dr. Anita Varma

I've seen Varma for a while but recently her whole demeanor has changed. I asked her why I have to wait over an hour on my appointment days and she got mad at me. She said the front desk workers don't know what they are doing and she lied to me twice about what time she gets there. I told her I was just curious why such a long wait even if there's only a couple of people there ..She told me if I wasn't happy I can go somewhere else. Scolding me out of her office and down the hall humiliating me. I left with anxiety and depression that I shouldn't have gotten from any kind of Dr. I will continue to write reviews and notify the BBB along with the AMA. I've heard about how she treated some of her other patients and it's sad.

I went 2 see her today for the 1st time as dr hamani gupta my primary care dr referred me 2 her . I am glad i stayed as i almost left. I had a good session and she is soooo very thorough like dr gupta and dr mindy krogenberg which i also see. The employees @ front desk and check out counter were nice also.. also between the time of making my appt a few wks ago and till today i called once or twice about concerns and they were nice on the phone then too.. ready 2 feel better and i feel i am in very good hands !!! 😉😉😉😉

Dr Varma has been very helpful in trying to find a medication that really helps me. After years of not much improvement with other psychiatrists and other medications she has found a medication that really helps and I am very thankful.

Try to get an early appointment so you can leave before lunch. Always late runs about an hour past appt time. Good listener my nerves are so spent by the time I get called back I am exhausted

This was quite an experience.I waited two hours and fifteen minutes in the office; with hyperactive children bouncing all around me.I got 23 minutes for my initial visit and, at one point, she flared her eyes and said, "Wow"...then asked me what I thought I needed for treatment of depression.This is a woman who performs electroconvulsive therapy. Amazing!In the end, she gave me a script for 10mg of Lexapro. She looked at me and said, "You look functional". My veterinarian could have done this for me...
