List of Benjamin Powell's Reviews
I would like to thank Dr Powell for being such a great surgeon. I recently had been through alot with diverticulitis. I kept having repeated infections and hospital stays. He was reluctant to just operate when most surgeons would just jump on it. I tried many rounds of antibiotics and just couldn't seem to get rid of infection. I had many visits to him and discussions about the operation. I knew it was time and I believe he did also. He explained all risk that were involved in the procedure and also he was very confident about his skills.I was very impressed with him. I'm glad I decided to have the operation even in the middle of a pandemic. Methodist Olive Branch hospital was great and also followed procedures by the book. I felt safe even in the hospital at this time. If you ever need a great surgeon I highly recommend him. Also I love his nurse Brandy she is very patient and understanding of any of your questions. Believe me I probably called her 100 times.
I was in the hospital and nervous about having surgery. Dr. Powell came to my room to meet me, and I was more than reassured by his manner and his explanations. He explains things very well, and he's very personable. He also has a nice sense of confidence (but no arrogance), so I felt very comfortable with him. Plus, one of my friends who is a trauma surgeon told me that Dr. Powell is a good surgeon. I had no problems from surgery. I never needed anything for pain and have healed nicely, so far. I would recommend Dr. Powell without hesitation. Furthermore, I talked via telephone with his nurse about a week after surgery - she was great also.
One of the best Doctor's in the world. He saved my husband's life.
I would not suggest this physician to anyone. After a routine gallbladder surgery my wife ended up in ICU from a bile leak. The night I took her to the ER, I called their after hours # several times and the on call doctor never called me back. The whole time wife was in the hospital (10 days) Dr Powell never have an explanation as to what happened and why she almost died.
To my husband and I, Dr. Powell is the BEST surgeon in Memphis! My husband had a complication from another surgeon in Memphis and Dr. Powell was called to fix it. He saved my husbands life and we will forever be grateful. When we said his name around the hospital, the nurses complimented how great of a surgeon we had. At our follow-up visit, the staff was friendly and responsive. We were a bit nervous because there were many people in the waiting room but our wait time was only 10-15 minutes. Dr. Powell has always addressed our questions directly, by calling himself to answer them! When he's busy, his nurse Paula is fantastic. We LOVE Dr. Powell and would recommend him to anyone in need of a general surgeon in Memphis.
Dr. Powell is a wonderful young and upcoming surgeon. Initially I was concerned with the referral to see him. However, after the first meeting I was more than satisfied with him. He was very thorough and explained everything to me in "laymans terms". I would most definately recommend this doctor. Also, Paula (his nurse) has been most helpful and is a very friendly lady. I couldn't have asked for better treatment.
Dr Powell never discussed with me the outcome of my test nor was I given any options but instead I found out through the receptionist that I needed to have surgery. Paula his nurse never returned any of my calls. I would not suggest anyone to this office to be subjected to this kind of behavior

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
