Dr. Brian J. Wheeler needs to learn how to look at the entire clinical picture, not numbers. My mother was admitted to the hospital on 04/27/20. Dr. Wheeler was the hospitalist in charge of her care. Let me preface by the fact that I am a trauma certified RN that has been working in hospice for the past three years in Louisiana. My mother had been an alcoholic for 40+ years and was showing all of the classic signs of end-stage liver disease. With my clinical background I was 100% positive my mother was clinically appropriate for hospice care. I personally was pushing for discharge with hospice services because my younger brother was responsible for all of her care. He was in desperate need of help. Dr. Brian J. Wheeler refused to discharge with hospice services because her MELD score was not where he deemed necessary for hospice. I attempted to educate Dr. Wheeler on hospice criteria and eligibility. I implored him to look at the entire clinical picture, not just a number

I appreciated the fact that Dr Wheeler discussed the unlikely hood of me discontinuing my medication even though I'm in remission. He read about patience's doing so, and how they feel out of remission. And the medication they use to take no longer worked. He will no longer be at the West Cancer clinic on Union Ave. I will miss him as my doctor.

Dr. Wheeler recently treated a dear friend for whom I was the caregiver. During my friend's hospitalization and eventual passing, he was extremely helpful and made himself available to me as I faced difficult medical decisions. Dr. Wheeler is a very capable, and genuinely compassionate physician.

His demeanor was not good. Wait time in room 2 hours. Cold room and hungry. Never explained blood work. Saw patient that was scheduled after me first. I did not get any answers to what I needed to know
