List of Brian Shay's Reviews
I am so grateful that the Dr that was on call when I went into the ER was Dr. Shay. He took the time to really explain things (that I dont understand at all) to me and to figure out an action plan. I have had 3 surgeries done by him so far and they have all felt stress free, I more felt hopeful (and excited to get the stones/stent out, of course). I feel well cared for. He is an amazing doctor and person. I would highly, highly recommend him to anyone.
I dont typically post reviews, but in this case felt that I needed to. I have known Dr. Shay for a long time and had always respected him as a physician/urologist. I desperately sought Dr. Shay to correct an issue from a previous urogynecologist bladder sling surgery. The last surgeon placed a bladder sling that was functional, but the stitching failed not allowing the wound to heal properly which left the mesh sling flying in the wind. I allowed the first surgeon to attempt a revision only to fail again. Feeling helpless and not knowing who to go to next I sought out Dr. Shay. Although I had a functional bladder sling, I had an open hole where the stitching that holds the mesh in place had failed. I simply needed it closed. First Dr. Shay referred me to a “plastic surgeon” and gave me a referral to a plastic surgeon. I called that office and the nurse was very surprised and told me this surgeon doesn’t even perform ANY type of vaginal surgeries! So now what? I was forced to call Dr. Shay BACK and ask him to suggest alternate options. He seemed very disinterested, but DID agree to attempt a revision! The cost of the revision was an additional 14k and the wound is now closed properly, BUT the bladder sling is NOW not functioning AT ALL! When I called to voice my concern after having a stress incontinent occurrence during a 5k, I was told to go to the Cleveland medical center 6 hours away with NO direction or suggestion of what Dr. to see. I suggested that I was not interested in a 6 hour field trip to another surgeons office. I asked that the sling be removed since it’s NOW not functional and he stated he didn’t want to remove it. All of this relayed by a nurse verses direct call from Dr. Shay himself. I suggested to the nurse that I didn’t want to leave a plastic non functional sling inside me! I asked for imaging to ensure the NON functional sling was not hindering nearby organs and I was told that he did not see reason to request such images! This is MY body retaining a NOW not functional and painful sling! I am now forced to find a 3rd surgeon to remove the bladder sling. I feel like this was an IN and OUT service with no accountability for post care. I am REALLY disappointed.
I was referred to Dr. Shay by my family physician, for what turned out to be a large cist on a kidney. After referring me to others, to drain the cist of over two liters of fluid on two occasions; Dr. Shay successfully removed the cist, while saving my kidney. This fine surgeon did everything possible to avoid operating, to minimize the intrusion. In my opinion, he upholds the highest standards of the medical profession both in compassion and competence. He was/is a blessing in my life!
Wonderful doctor! Caring and precise! Would highly recommend. After a poor experience with another doctor,he made our day!!!
Dr. Shay is the most exceptional physician I have ever come in contact with. He exceeds in all aspects: patient care and concerns, excellent skill and knowledge of his profession.
I wish there was a 10 star on his bedside manner and spending time explaining and answering all of my questions!) great experience!
Dr. Shay was very professional and very willing to listen when I had complaints of pain; which turned out to be a different problem all to gether. I highly recommend him not only as your doctor but as someone who is going to care about your outcome after your procedure is over.
Dr. Shay is very knowledgeable and has been so helpful to our family! After a lot of searching, we were finally able to find a doctor that was supportive and willing to put in the extra effort to meets our needs. We have been seeing Dr. Shay for a while now and I would highly recommend him!
While his bedside manner in the office leaves something to be desired, when my husband actually had the testing done, Dr. Shea was great. He explained what he saw plus he sent my husband out with some much needed positive infornation. I will take that over any abruptness shown while in the clinic any time.
Very unsatisfied with Urology Grp policy of leave v/m & we call you back. I played phone tag with them for a week till I gave up out of frustration.I do not feel a patient should have to leave voicemails everytime they call. Impression is they are too busy for me or have to high a pt load to give the attention I believe I need. They may be the best avail in this area, but not best for me if this is the way they deal with pts. Sorry Dr Shay that this is your associates policy. Heard you were really good, but not worth the hassle for an appt. Going to another grp/physician. Would rather pay out of network cost than be treated like a number.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
