John Austin's Online Review Report Card

I saw Dr. Austin out of concern that a sprained email wasn't healing properly. He was excellent. His office staff however is not. I received an email A WHOLE YEAR after my visit with my bill. I questioned the accuracy of the billing (in my experience businesses prefer to be paid for their services sooner than a year after the services are rendered.) I pay my bills when I receive them. I had assumed this had been taken care of by my husband- who manages our family's medical bills. When I replied saying the bill must be an error- I received an extremely rude response from 'Geine' that was completely uncalled for.

I had hurt my wrist at the base of my thumb and was in serious and constan pain. I had a time constraint with a trip coming up, but Dr. Austin and his staff fit me in, and I'm glad they did. He examined me and explained what he thought was wrong, but followed it up with imaging to be certain. He called me to tell me my wrist wasn't broken and was able to see me the next morning for a steroid shot. He showed me the x-ray and explained my condition and he agreed a steroid shot would reduce the inflammation / pain. I had a shot from another surgeon in the other wrist years ago, which really hurt, but Dr. Austin did this one with zero pain! The next day or so the wrist was pretty sore, as I expected, but he definitely hit the target, because once it kicked in, my wrist was pain free. He's a great doctor who is very personable.

Horrible unethical doctor. He really pushed for me to get surgery, but the MRI was equivocal. I got 2 other opinions and they both said I didn't need surgery, only physical therapy.

I had knee surgery with Dr Austin after seeing another dr who was more of a business man than a dr, and as soon as I have met dr Austin I knew this was the right guy. He is a real dr in the sense that he makes you feel like his patient not just another check. He took the time over and over again to explain me what was wrong with my knee and what my options were. The surgery went smooth and he was always checking prior to the day and after. Really cool guy. I can't stress enough how good he is as a person and doctor.

The best Orthopedic doctor in San Diego, he takes the time to listen to your problems, explains the details of the injury and best of all he has the patients health and well being foremost in his treatment plan. For example, when I went to see him, he gave me various options and his suggestions cured my pain in my knee joint without any surgery. His staff is amazing (Jenny), very friendly, helpful and professional. The only thing I would improve is the wait time which lasted more than 30-45 minutes.

Dr Austin repaired my shoulder after months of hearing there was nothing wrong with it. He is very compassionate, and he takes as long as needed with you. He doesn't treat you like you are on a conveyor belt. I would recommend him to anyone. He is amazing in my book.

Did both my knees while he was at Mercy in Mass. Super doctor did a great job, very happy took very good care of me, I'm sad to see him leave Mercy.

Excellent surgeon. Knee cap shattered into six pieces. Repaired no complications
