I am 28 and received a minimal invasive surgery from Dr. Smith yesterday on L5S1 in my lower back. The pain had been debilitating for about 2 months. As of this morning I am sore from the surgery but the extreme nerve pain that was locking my leg up is gone. Dr smith was the right choice

After being in constant daily pain for 8 months, on pain meds, and weekly adjustments by a chiropractor, I met with a surgeon in another practice. He was ready to do surgery a.s.a.p. I decided that I wanted a 2nd opinion. I called Semmes Murphey & explained my situation. Soon I had an appointment with Dr. Kyle Smith. I researched him online & liked what I read. At my first appointment in November 2020, I gave him a full explanation of what was happening to me & expressed my concerns about major surgery on my nearly 80 yr old body! He listened carefully, and took a very conservative approach. He ordered x-rays, an MRI and a bone density test to see if my bones could handle a disc fusion successfully. The test came back “borderline “ . Dr. Smith then consulted with my endocrinologist to prescribe a medicine to increase my bone density, making sure the surgery had the best chance of success. For over 3 months of daily injections , Dr. Smith was satisfied that my bones were in good shape for surgery. Surgery was performed flawlessly on April 8, 2021 in St. Francis Bartlett Hospital. Dr. Smith visited me after I awoke from the anesthesia and again the next day before being discharged. As usual, I never felt rushed as he answered all my questions. His nurse, Allie Hearn, was also in touch with me via phone @ email, always answering my concerns. At my 2 week follow up appointment with Dr. Smith, I never felt rushed as he showed me x-rays of my actual surgery, explaining it all to me in language that was easy to understand. For over one year, I had been in constant pain, at times barely able to walk, often in tears with pain. The TLIF surgery which fused 2 of my spinal discs has made me pain free and given me a new lease on life, thanks to the skillful hands of this gifted surgeon. I applaud his conservative approach and feel very confident in being pain free for the rest of my life. Thank you Dr. Smith!
