Dr Stephens spent less than 5 minutes looking at my records I brought in, assessing me, and failed to order proper x-rays. He was short and rude.

Dr. Byron F. Stephens II brought my life back. For years, I suffered from sciatica pain in my left side leg, radiating from my lower back all the way to my foot. Six weeks after Dr. Stephens performed surgery in my lower back the results were amazing, the pain in my leg was gone, I am doing the things I thought I would never do again, I am enjoying my life again, I highly recommend Dr. Stephens, his medical staff are very professional. Following the post-surgery instructions was very important for recovery, combined with lots of patience and good care.

I recently went through extensive back surgery with Dr. Stephens. The most informative and helpful Doctor at Vanderbilt. I could say that he simply fixed my back problems, but that would be short of the fact that he is the best Ortho surgery at Vanderbilt. I would with my highest recommendation recommend him to all.

I am 12 weeks from my L4-L5 Fusion Surgery to correct back pain and loss of function of one leg. I am completely pain free and am getting more feeling back in my leg every day. I felt from my first appointment that Dr Stephens listened to me, understood my circumstances, had great bedside manner, and provided me with excellent care. As a surgeon he is a Rock Star and I highly recommend his services. Vanderbilt University Medical Center surgery team and his office staff were caring and professional at all times. I was offered the opportunity to participate in a VUMC study on walking exercise after surgery (PASS) that has greatly improved my recovery timeline. I also highly recommend walking as exercise after back surgery.

I received spinal fusion for my scoliosis form Dr. Stephens. Dr Stephens always informed me in a courteous manner about the procedure and healing processes. I felt confident in his and the staffs abilities/knowledge. I had a great experience even though I had a major surgery.

I would highly recommend Dr. Stephens. He preformed a L5/S1 fusion on my back and a laminectomy. He was through in his explanation of why he recommended my surgery. He is easy to question and clear in his explanations and diagrams of what was happening in my back. His scheduling staff, PA’s and Nurse were professional, most responsive and helped me navigate back surgery. Before surgery I could not walk or stand do to the pain and I am now pain free.

I had a bad experience with another provider and hospital a year before. Dr. Stephens said he could fix everything that was wrong and he did just that. The pain I was experiencing was finally gone and I can walk again! Dr. Stephens is top notch and I would recommend him to anyone and everyone.

Dr. Stephens saw how much pain I was in and personally called my insurance to try to get surgery done sooner than 15 day waiting period, but to no avail. He was very concerned about my pain. Did an excellent job on surgery. Had absolutely no pain after surgery. He is very nice and compassionate.

I feel very confident with Dr Stephens approach to my specific needs. I was unable to walk more than a few feet without pain and numbness in my legs and back feeling as if I would soon either be on a walker or wheelchair. Dr Stephens recommended surgery which I felt was my only option and the results have been more than I expected. I now am walking more than 2 miles without stopping and no pain. My quality of life has been renewed. Dr Stephens is a true professional and approachable he listed to all my questions and fears and put me at ease. I am grateful that I found him.

The visit was a great experience he and Joe clearly explained my situation and I was heard by both of them.
