If you’re searching for a knowledgeable, experienced surgeon, you’ve found him. DR, Truumees is internationally recognized leader in spine surgery. He is published. He spent time with me outlining the risks and benefits of spinal surgery in a kind and patient manner. (I had seen him years previously and decided to opt out of surgery, so he was familiar with my case. It did indeed worsen over six years and now I’m facing a more complicated surgery as a result. Luckily, the years I spent strengthening my core in Physical Therapy/ Pilates has helped stay off serious consequences, but I’ll definitely have him be my surgeon).

Dr. Truumees an and his staff especially Ariel, RN are are amazing. I have no doubt this team is going to change my life for the better when I get my surgery on the 27th of this month.

Truumees performed ACDF Surgery on me in January 2020. Prior to surgery I asked him about effects on my larynx because I am a classically trained singer. I was told that likely there would be swelling for several weeks. After the swelling subsides, he assured me there should be no problem. After waiting a couple of months I tried vocalizing only to discover that the upper register of my voice was gone. I could go up to an F1 and the voice ceased to function at all. After a couple of consultations I was assured the surgery was fine. I was finally referred to an ENT specialist. This specialist discovered there was damage to a nerve connecting one of the vocal folds that controls my upper register. The fold was shrunk to the point the upper register simply did not phonate. When I was finally able to speak with Truumees, he tried to pass it off as a problem with the anesthesiologist and not the surgery. The ENT has twice done injections into the larynx in an effort to improve the issue. I recently attempted to do a recording for a friend's film project at ACC. I used a piece that was not especially high. The voice simply would not function even at the limited range. To add insult, I still, after 15 months have difficulty swallowing. The ENT has asked for a study to diagnose the extent of the problem. Update: 06/28/21. The swallow test indicates some of the muscles promoting swallowing no longer work properly. This means food, no matter now small or well chewed, gets caught in my throat. I either must wash it down with a liquid or cough it up into my mouth (ew, yes, I know) and try to swallow again. Finally, numbness and some pain are now constant in fingertips.

I withdraw my one star review. Their lack of response was an IT problem due to organizational issues. They responded immediately to my review and the followup was amazing. During my appointment, the staff and the doctor were most thorough and professional.

I have emailed and called the office 3 times over a 2 week period with no response. I require spinal surgery and Dr. Truumees was recommended by by orthopedic doctor.

The staff are all very kind and cheerful. Very little wait time. Dr. Truumees gives good details of what he finds in the imaging and gives good information to make any needed decisions.
