List of Jerry D. Vandel's Reviews
I have been a patient of Dr. Vandel for 4 years, and he's been great as a Dr. His office manager however, is terrible. She believes that she should make medical decisions about patients and not the physician himself. I had scheduled my annual physical exam, but made the mistake about asking about the process for a specialist referral. The person I spoke with said to just talk t the doctor - totally normal. The office manager called me this morning out of the blue (appt scheduled tomorrow) and said that I could not come in for my annual physical, insisting that I make a separate "referral" appointment and that general healthcare concerns cannot be discussed during a regular physical because that is just not how they are billed. She tried to change my scheduled physical to a different kind of visit (and therefor also charge a co-pay when there was not one for my regular annual) and said that it was absolutely NOT up to the doctor because its about billing which she is in charge of. This is absurd. Patients should be allowed to bring any healthcare concerns they have up with their physician, and the physician determine whether there are followup or specialized visits required. Also, an annual physical exam is exactly where basic non-emergent questions should be asked. This is NOT in the appropriate realm of an office manager position. While the Dr. has been fine, I will no longer deal with such terrible office management or blatant money grabbing from patients. I will not be returning to that practice (and office staff).
Dr. Vandel has been my doctor for 28 years. He has an excellent reputation in the medical community and he earned it. He is caring, up-to-date on the latest medical treatments and medicine, and very accurate with his diagnosis. My entire extended family treats with him. We are fans.
Dr Vandel is highly skilled and knowledgeable. If you ask questions, he will take the time to answer them. He is a low-key person which helps him be a good listener.
I had a positive experience with Dr. Vandel. He was thorough, knowledgeable, and spent a lot of time with me. He addressed all my concerns-would recommend.
I went to Dr. Vandel and was very pleasantly surprised by how much time he spent with me. He asked many questions (where I was from, what I did for fun, etc) and seemed genuinely interested in my response (oh, what brought you to Boston? I went to school there, etc). I also was having trouble with my knees, and he filled out a letter of medical necessity form so I could sign up for a gym and use proper equipment. I also really appreciated his focus on preventative health, which I think is so important. I can't remember the last time I left a doctor's office feeling so cared for. Would definitely recommend!
I don't have anything specifically negative or positive to say about Dr. Vandel, except that I stopped seeing him years ago because I found him to be rather mediocre. I remember being in an examination room with him when he was called out for something; when he came back, he had no recollection of what we had been discussing.
Dr Vandel, Sara Klopp and the entire staff at AMA are wonderful. I've been going there for a few years now and have even referred some friends. I think they are very friendly and you can tell that they enjoy what they do and care about their patients. With all the patients they see they still try to remember bits about you and what you have going on in life (they both asked me how my wedding was even though it had been at least 6 months since I'd seen them) Now that they moved into the new location its even better not having to park in the garage or try to find a spot. Overall, great office and doctors and PA. I will continue to see them and refer my friends.
He is the BEST!! Love his staff too!
Dr. Vandel is the most pleasant and trustworthy doctor I have ever known. My husband and I became patients of Dr. Vandel shortly after my husband had surgery for prostate cancer. He was recommended by the surgeon for follow-up care. Now my daughter, son, and their families have Dr. Vandel as their primary doctor. I recommend him highly. Leda Roselle
I saw the robotic, uninterested PA, Sara Klopp. She read questions off a screen and ignored me or showed visible frustration whatever I didn't fit her script. We kept talking about cholesterol long after I explained my cholesterol has always been great. She just robotically kept talking. She actually sighed at me repeatedly when I tried to take her off-script or I said "I don't know" for an answer to one of the script-related questions. Following up with a snitty "I'm just trying to get information" as if "I don't know" is not an appropriate response and I should make something up which helped her get to the next box on the screen. She kept pushing me to make an extra appointment when I asked what tests would be done/what tests SHOULD be done as they relate to my actual health. She did not consider these questions appropriate for an annual exam in which all they do is order tests? I left feeling like it was a total waste. On the bright side -- the front desk staff was very nice.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
