My wife was a patient at Select Specialty Hospital in Carrollton for 5 weeks while recovering from pneumonia and our experience was mixed. The staff that actually provided the care (nurses, therapists, & nurses aids) were good overall, though some were better than others. Getting help when calling for assistance can take some time though. The higher you go up the totem pole the worse things get however. The charge nurses on duty usually only do a single walk through on each shift and appear to be more interested in making sure rules are enforced than actually providing patient care. And the overall level of communication by the management staff is abysmal. The facility is clean and appears to be well maintained. The patient rooms are decent sized, though the odd layout (bathroom in the back of the room) means the windows are pretty small. The climate control wasn't great. When it was cold outside the room was quite chilly, even with the thermostat at it's highest setting. The food is stereotypical hospital food.
I really liked the way this hospital treated me and I'm happy to have been there with people that looked out for me as I healed. Would recommend select specialty hospital.
I am very disappointed with some of the things. They speak to each other in Hindi. They argue In front of paitents. Dr of wound.care bad. But the nursing staff is 4 stars except one on night shift who is not gentle.
I was transferred from Medical City Lewisville July 2020 During the hight of the Covid Epidemic to Select Specialty Hospital in their long term Critical Illness Recovery Division after my emergency surgery on my colon that resulted in highly complex medical issues that this hospital was well suited for treating. Dr Ketan Patel the head Internist there collaborated with my Dr. Steven Ward Lacey his surgeon’s Dr Clifford Cox and Sina Matin and mapped out a long term treatment plan to be executed at Select to treat my medical complications which involved TPN and extensive wound management care. I was in extremely in bad shape medically and it involved Dr Hina Rizvi’s wound management expertise and many other highly specialized and caring nurses to stabilize me and to restore my health in order to get me to my final surgery at Baylor Grapvine Jan 2021 with Dr Cox and Sina Matin. I received nothing but the best from Dr Patel checking on me twice a day and reporting back to my specialist Dr Lacey in Southlake and surgeons Dr Cox and Sina Matin with constant updates. Dr Hina Rizvi and her wound management team were extremely aggressive in treating my wounds and taught me the skill set to handle my wound management by myself which came in handy later on down the road. They also taught me the importance to get my nutrition level back in check through TPN in order for the wounds to close effectively. After a three month stay I left in a healthier condition to transfer me back home in order for me to continue TPN and finish the wound management process until Jan 2021 for my final colon surgery by Dr Cox and abdominal reconstruction surgery by Dr Sina Matin. I am still in a recuperation process after the final surgery on Jan 2021 but extremely great full to the care I received by Dr Patel, Dr Hina Rizvi, her wound management team and many other nurses at Select. Yes I did experience issues with the case management team there but the CEO John O' Hearn personally got involved and resolved the case issues. He also visited with me and gave me his business card. What I learned from the entire process you have to have a strong mind set determination to survive to meet everyone there halfway to make it out successfully and to have the ability to learn how to take care yourself and treat your condition from these Drs and nurses at Select to transition home or to transfer to your next level of care. Thanks for taking the part in saving my life.
Excellent experience here!! Everyone was very caring and attentive. The staff worked very hard as a team to get my husband feeling better and ready to come home. I wish the hospital had sent him here sooner. Highly recommend!
I am so sorry for not writing this sooner. My dad passed at this hospital back in 2018. I want to thank the nurses, staff, and volunteers that supported our family during one of the hardest times in our lives. The hospital permitted my father after passing an observance and chanting for over 15 hours. The nurses and staff observed every respect, culturally, religiously, and certain steps that was requested. I can not say enough great thing about Select Speacialty Hospital. Thank you again for helping my family through those hard and difficult times.
Select Specialty has been an amazing recovery experience for my mother and our family. Christina, our case manager was magnificent. Kelly, her pharmacist, was amazing, Dr Kaila, her pulmonologist was amazing. Dr. Shariff, was amazing. Joe, the respiratory tech along with all his teammates were amazing. All the Drs., nurses, and techs that helped my mother survive being on a ventilator for 5 months was and is AMAZING. Praise God for this miracle of sending my mother to Select. She was transferred to rehab today to continue her recovery to get back to her family. I highly recommend Select Specialty Hospital for any and all respiratory rehabilitation needs.
We are so grateful to Select Specialty hospital. They provided professional, thoughtful and excellent care to my husband after the covid ICU. Select is a small hospital with a personal touch. They were very flexible and responsive with his unique dietary needs. Therapists worked hard to get him moving and progressing. After 2.5 weeks, my husband was well prepared for step down rehab. Thank you, Select!
Cannot say enough good things about Select Hospital in Carrollton. A little apprehensive at first with my 82 year old mother; but oh my goodness their care, the Dr.'s on staff, the nurses and entire staff were absolutely amazing. Took exceptional care of my Mom and was simply amazed how clean and well managed this facility was. Would certainly recommend. Giving it 5 stars.
My father died here. He was completely neglected. Don’t leave your loved ones here, as they will end up the same way as my father. He was put on a ventilator here, and rather than IV sedation as I believed, they were knocking him out manually with god knows what. The day he passed away, he managed to wake up from his “medically induced coma” twice. (You’d think they’d watch him better after the first incident?).The second time he awoke, the nurse was conveniently out of the room, and he had the strength to pull out his ventilator tube. No one should be allowed in this hospital that needs actual care. I’m not sure how this is a “respiratory recovery center” if they are inserting ventilators. As for the “owner” I have zero reason to contact you.
I was sent to Select Specialty Hospital after being in the hospital over one month due to Covid. I was not on the vent but had limited lung capacity & was on oxygen. I can’t say enough good things about the entire staff at Select; Joe my respiratory tech was so awesome in explaining things, Monica my nurse was so kind & caring, my physical & occupational therapists did so much for me to improve my lung function and Christina my patient care rep kept myself as well as my family informed throughout my stay. The facility is super clean and the rest of the staff are fantastic and truly make the stay worthwhile. There should be no hesitation sending your loved one to Select, they are the best.
Select is a great place with a wonderful staff. The food is excellent. You can’t go wrong if you choose Select for your loved one. Select is very, very clean.
Don’t answer the call button quick enough. Food needs an improvement.

This place was wonderful. The staff was nice and very attentive and my therapy went really well.
Great facility!! Friendly front desk & administers!
I have had a wonderful experience. If you have to go to an Ltach, Select Carrollton is the best place to be. The staff is so kind and have been everything I needed during my recovery and stuck by me. Everyone needs to know that this is the place to be if you are sick, to tend to your needs and provide amazing care! It was more than just care for me as I have been lonely during my recovery but the staff was here to speak with me, be here for me and put a smile on my face during uncertain times. This team has become more than friends but my family. Each department has significantly improved my recovery. The nursing team went above and beyond, the medical attention from the physicians were great! If I had questions they would assist by providing me information and taking the time to answer all of my questions.
Very professional business. The team was very professional, responsive and kind. I felt that I was in very good hands.
This facility saved my father’s life! He was initially transferred to Lifecare in Plano where he stayed for two weeks before we rushed him out of there. They kept him sedated because of his “anxiety” and were not making efforts to wean him off the ventilator. When my dad was transferred to Select, the staff treated him so nicely even with a language barrier. Within days of arrival, they began to wean him off the ventilator, had physical therapy M-F, speech therapy evaluated him frequently, and he had zero anxiety so he was never sedated. Select has longer visitation hours so it was nice being able to be with him through his recovery. In a short amount of time, my dad was off the ventilator, he was talking, he was able to sit for longer periods, and he was eating and drinking again. After a quick and hopeful month, my dad is now in a rehabilitation facility which we thought would happen way down the line. Had we left him at Lifecare, he would probably still be on the ventilator, feeding tube, in bed, and unresponsive. The staff and the facility at Select are MAGNIFICENT! The facility is one story so you can also visit the patient through the window which was nice. We are so grateful and appreciative for everything they did for my dad.
This post is for both Carrollton regional medical and when I mention the rehab facility, it is select Specialty Hospital Carrollton/Plano:Terrible care for covid patients. You will go hours before you are seen. My mother fainted and fell at the hospital and the nurses didn’t even know for hours until my mother woke up on her own and was able to throw herself on the bed to call the nurses. This happened on her very first night there. We hardly got communication from the staff as she was isolated and no family present to advocate for her. The staff refused to give her her nebulizer treatment and one tech even lied about giving it to her when it wasn’t true. At one point she was moved out of ICU into a new room where she didn’t even have a bed or toilet paper. The floor was completely empty and she had not been checked on for at least five hours. My mother had to use paper towels for her restroom hygiene, which caused the commode to clog up, and was disrespected by the plumber when he went to fix it. On top of that, the AC was not working. The staff judged her and would throw a mask at her for her to wear because they refused to get near her. She was then prematurely discharged unexpectedly one day, without informing the family until it was already time to transfer her to a rehab facility that they have a partnership with, that was just as awful, she was there for a few weeks and was again suddenly discharged without communication. She lasted four days at home and has now had to be readmitted to a much better hospital, Plano Presby, where they found that she still had pneumonia, covid positive, and covid related symptoms and fever. Yet, the previous hospital discharge nurse told her she could return to work (she works at a school) the next day, and refused to give her a doctor’s note. People, I tell you to stay away from this hospital, ESPECIALLY if you’re a covid patient, they’ll just leave you in a room for several hours before you even get treated, and they will treat you like you are an alien because they are too afraid to do their job that THEY signed up for.
