List of Bruce Mertz's Reviews
He’s not horrible.. He’s had some redeeming moments in the time he has been my PCP. He has a very flat personality, and can be blunt without actually processing how he’ll come across to his patients. I am an RN with a lot of medical and health literacy. When I question things at a higher level, he gets irritated, it’s almost as though the extra time to answer my questions is throwing him off his groove and he needs order and consistency. Rigid thinker.
Use this doctor if you like being lectured & love to wait for hours to be seen. My wife just left his office in tears. She needed a referral for a radiology STAT and this doc refused. Instead of providing remedy, he spent his time lecturing her on his personal political opinions. We are non-political. Finding another doctor. This dude is clownshoes.
I felt comfortable and treated very well. Everyone were friendly and good at their jobs.
Been using for a few years since I moved to the area. Bedside manner could be better. He seems to hate questions and get annoyed very easily. It’s not the best because that is going to make a patient feel uncomfortable opening up about their needs and thoughts. Kind of like you can’t express what you feel like you need cause your not the Dr. kind of vibe. Just list your symptoms and hush.Other than that all his diagnosis and treatment have been spot on. Staff is nice too and that’s hard to come by.
After waiting 4 months for a new patient appointment, I finally see Dr. Mertz. Instead of being friendly, asking how I was enjoying Corpus, etc. he immediately judged me and started drilling me on the medications I’ve been taking and prescribed for years. He then goes on about how he takes drug addiction very seriously (ummm okay? I’m not a drug addict) and forces me to drive to a clinic to get multiple urine and blood drug tests done if he wants to prescribe my antidepressant and ADHD medications that I’ve been taking for many years. That’s absurd! I’ve never, ever had a doctor force me to take drug tests, and just so I can get my medication I’ve been prescribed for many years refilled. I felt like I needed to call my mom so she could tell him I’m not some drug addict. Not only was he beyond judgemental and completely inept in terms of mental health, but also his bedside manner was the worst I’ve ever come across. I felt extremely uncomfortable with him. If you are a woman, struggle with a learning disability, have ever struggled with mental health, or God forbid if you’ve ever smoked the devils lettuce - avoid this doctor at ALL costs. I was never planning on returning anyway, but I just received a letter from him saying he was rejecting me as a patient. I’ve lived in 5 different states and have had many compassionate and intelligent doctors, and I’ve NEVER been let go as a new patient. Good riddance.

I will say that the front desk & nurses are all very friendly though, unlike him.
Dr. Mertz is consistently helpful and. responsive. He manages prescriptions accurately and promptly. His expansive knowledge has been helpful in numerous areas.
★★★★★ I'm one of the lucky ones. Dr. Bruce Mertz is my primary care physician.
I left a message for a nurse to call me back, she called me back the next day could not answer my question about a form that needed to be filled out by the Dr. So my adult disabled daughter could get services that would help her with accessibility. She said I would have to bring her in and could not answer my question. I asked if she could ask the Dr. Because I didn't want to unnecessarily expose my special needs daughter to Covid. I only wanted to know that if I take her in will the Dr. fill out the formf the waiver program. She said she would ask the Dr. Seemed annoyed with my request and never returned my call again with an answer. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicaid for my daughter and she was born with Cerebral Palsy. There is no question about her level of disability. I always have these problems with that same nurse. The Dr. was great but I need the staff to be good also.
Prompt. Courteous. Everybody at the clinic is polite. Dr Mertz listens and the dispatches referrals with no delay. I really like the care I have received.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
