Driscoll Children's Hospital's Online Review Report Card

Called just to inquire on information on how to find pediatrician and receptionist was extremely rude. She told me to go on google and look it up and that she couldn’t help me because she had a patient. Very rude they need to hire nicer people.

Nurses , resident doctors were great. It is the first children hospital where just the children gets the food and parents have to leave kids with a nurse to go and buy food. And it is the first hospital that the specialist doesn’t go and visit the patient for several days in a row , my kid was admitted for a UTI and she was discharged with pain when she pee and without having the follow up appointment with the specialist. I had to take her to Mexico and I can’t understand how the hospital didn’t found out that the infection was also on the right kidney and supposedly for discroll hospital everything was great.

I will never use Driscoll Children's Hospital ER services again for my son. My son went in for dehydration and since it was the weekend we couldn't take him to his regular doctor and an urgent care facility turned us away saying he needed IVs (my son is very young). So we decided to take him to DCH ER to ensure his situation didn't become an ER needed situation, however he was low complexity of needed services (he just couldn't keep liquids down). They gave my son a pill and gatorade via a syringe which my husband gave a certain amount of gatorade to my son every 5 minutes. I feel like the actual services were adequate as my son quickly was able to hold food and liquids down. We left the hospital 2 hours later. The reason for the 1 star review and why I will never use their ER services is the nurses and doctors vastly over billed for services performed. No tests, no IVs, no imaging, and no procedures were performed on my son. He was not a complicated case, but the hospital wanted to charge $1,800 for their services. I spoke to the hospital and they reduced the bill by 65% which ended up being around $700, but I still feel taken advantage of by their extravagant medical billing based on the low complexity of my son's condition. I paid the reduced bill, but next time I will take my son to Christus Spohn as I have personally used their ER services before and have never needed to question the extravagant billing with them. I expected to pay slightly higher for ER services, but their billing was just plain crazy. I don't write reviews often, but I felt I needed to in this circumstance as I don't feel like they were a valuable service to the community if they put the same patient's family into financial distress due to their over billing for their services.

The lady at the receptionist when you first walk in at the main entrance behind the 2 glass windows was super rude. I asked her to repeat herself ( I didn’t hear her ) and she asked if I was deaf. It was my first time here I took my daughter to get some blood work done because I’m from kingsville and we don’t have any childrens hospitals there.. Also the lady at the lab that checks you in was rude. She got mad cause I didn’t know the first name of my daughters pediatrician, and the other lady who took my daughters blood.. I think her name was Isabella, did not calm my daughter down at all when my daughter was crying, she stayed quiet the whole time. Which was oddly weird to me. I had a very unpleasant experience, I’m not sure if I will ever return here well at least for lab work….If you don’t like your job, don’t take it out on the patients!!!!

I am completely disappointed and angry at the service my daughter received from Driscoll. After getting my daughters arm X-rayed from radiology associates they referred us to Driscoll’s Orthopedic Department. This was due to them not being able to rule out a fracture. I was told by my daughters Pediatric Doctor that Driscoll would be reaching out to me within a couple of hours to schedule my daughter an appointment. After waiting hours while my daughter was in pain, I called Driscoll who transferred me to the Orthopedic Department in which they repeatedly stated they did not receive her X-rays which Radiology Associates sent it to them multiple times. After multiple calls between Radiology and Driscoll, Driscoll did not answer I even left voicemails. I NEVER received a call back, it took TWO DAYS for an appointment to be set up only to find out my daughters right arm was broken. I am absolutely livid to know that the health system had ZERO sense of urgency for my 4 year old daughter, who was in extreme pain during that time to the point where she was convinced her arm was fine. The fact that it took TWO DAYS for a serious injury like this leaves me truly worried for any other child who gets treated at this hospital.

We are so fortunate to have Dr. Mizesko here in Corpus Christi. She is an amazing pediatric rheumatologist who cares for her patients. There is such a shortage of Rhemetology doctors here in the U.S., especially pediatric doctors. I have friends who have to drive hours to appointments when their child needs to be seen. We are so blessed. Thank you Driscoll Hospital for providing our community and children with such excellence.

Brought my son to the er to see if they can help me with a cast that his pediatrician put on him that is cutting his skin basically I was there for 4hrs for them to tell me they can't do nothing about it to take him to his pediatrician.
