Dr. Dakiw was my surgeon in 2007 when I had thyroid cancer. As the cancer had extensively metastasized to my neck, the operation was complicated and long. I always thank my lucky star that I found Dr. Dakiw. He is a true miracle worker combining exceptional skill with great humanity. The likes of him are rare.

One of the best doctors I have ever encountered. The most important characteristic is Dr.Dackiw's humility and level of expertise. He explains every thing, and provided additional information for me to research on the topic of thyroid and para-thyroid diseases. He was my surgeon and provided great after care, by communicating to me and my primary care physician.

Dr. Dackiw did my total thyroidectomy and right neck dissection a year ago, and I couldn't be happier with it. Even right after waking up post-op, I could speak...didn't have to whisper and wasn't hoarse. Even though there was cancer around my vocal cords that had to be taken off, within a week or two I was talking as loudly as ever. Now, one year out, my scar (all six inches of it) is so thin and flat that nobody even sees it unless I point it out, and I haven't had any complications. I'm going back to Dr. Dackiw for my next surgery because he did such a great job last time. Would highly recommend him, as well as all the JH staff. Everyone there was great!

I had a rather large thyroid tumor (4.5cms) in which the biopsy revealed abnormal cells but unsure what they are. After much discussion with Dr. Dackiw, we decided to remove the tumor and one lobe of the thyroid (done 2/15/11). The pathology came back positive for papillary cancer with metastasis to my lymph nodes. Fortunately, he removed all the cancer. On May 23rd, I went back for a thyroid completion. I am now currently being treated with radioactive iodine with an endocrinologist. I cannot describe in words how professional, courteous, knowledgeable and respectful he is. He answered all my questions, treated me like a human being and did a fantastic job on both of my surgeries. I am a nurse and being on the other side of health care is hard. Dr. Dackiw took away all my fears and made me feel comfortable. I would recommend him to anyone anyday!

He is an excellent doctor and surgeon. He did our son’s surgery in 2002 and saved his life. We are for ever grateful to him. Our son has MEN 2B and had to have his thyroid removed and parathyroid and several lymph nodes. Thanks to Dr. Dackiw he has been well.

I saw Dr. Dackiw after I was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism. He performed my parathyroidectomy earlier this year. Dr. Dackiw and the Hopkins staff were wonderfully accomodating and knowledgable. He has great bedside manner and more importantly, he is an excellent surgeon. My scar is healing nicely and I am very happy with the results. The only thing I was unhappy about was my post-op treatment. I began to experience symptoms of hypocalcemia about three weeks post op and called both him and his nurse practicioner, Brenda Smith, to get advice on what to do. Neither of them ever called me back. They both encouraged me to contact them should I have any problems and symptoms of hypocalcemia can be quite scary. I would recommend this surgeon BUT I would caution - should you have any complications, you may have to look elsewhere.
