Just because black men/boys typically have a thickening of the heart does not mean you don't treat them with the upmost of urgent care just as if you would a group where this is not commonplace. Especially, if a thread of death by sudden cardiac arrest is immanent. Do no harm. All cardiology matters should be treated as urgent if the symptom or underlying issue could result in death. With heart issues there is no room for error or well, I missed that or any other thing that keeps you from providing the best of medical treatment.
This is the worst place you can take your children to.The doctor is only interested in your money not the health of your kids. Don’t let the last name and smile fool you.
Scheduled an appt for my newborn and Dr. Kao refused to see him due to him not being added on my insurance yet, even though I have a month for that to be done. I called my insurance and added him and called the office back, they claimed that it is too short notice to do the paper work and authorization needed and Dr. Kao said that the appt can wait till next week so they can do the authorization to get paid. This is what’s wrong with our medical system, prioritizing payment versus patient health. Needless to say, I will be going to another provider.
My daughter was diagnosed with Tetrology of Fallot in Utero in late 2004. We visited Dr. Kao's office and her staff was outstanding and compassionate. What I remember most about Dr. Kao was if she was not at her office, she was at the hospital checking on her post op patients. I would joke with her that she had "no life", but looking back now, I think this was her life and she loved it.
Dr. Kao has been an amazing doctor for us from day 1! I remember getting referred to her the day I found out about my sons heart and she was the first doctor I talked to that was able to put us at ease. She definitely cares about her patients and it shows!!
Dr. Jane Kao diagnosed our son with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome a few months before he was born. She took the time to answer a multitude of questions for us while providing great comfort & concern on what proved to be one of the scariest days of our lives. Dr. Kao gave us detailed information about Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome while explaining the series of surgeries that our son would need in order to survive. She’s continued to be an advocate for Tate and has provided excellent & progressive healthcare for him for the past 17 years. Dr Kao is an excellent physician, but even more than that, she’s always treated us as family. She’s been a mentor to our oldest son, who has recently graduated from medical school.Tate is a happy and active 10th grader. He’s on the A/B Honor Roll, serves on the Student Council and just qualified for the UIL 4A State Golf Tournament. Tate might have been born with only 1/2 of a heart, but he lives and loves wholeheartedly. Dr. Kao has been a God send to us on Tate’s journey with HLHS. We love Dr Kao!!!
Love the this place! been taking our boy here for years. Great dr. and staff is wonderful
Dr. Kao is a warm, compassionate and knowledgeable Pediatric Cardiologist. She was referred to us by my OBGYN when my son's heart abnormalities were initially detected. Dr. Kao spent lots of time speaking with us and explaining the challenges that we were about to face. She also provided much comfort to us by ensuring everyone was in place and ready to receive our son into the world. She continues to care for my son 6 years later and without fail has constantly guided us through this voyage. She is a tremendous Doctor and always brings us smiles when we visit her. Dr. Kao and her team are always available when we have questions or concerns. They take their time in our visits and never rush us. Dr. Kao and team get 5 stars from us!
Dr. Kao has been my sons cardiologist for almost 18 years and we couldn't be more pleased. The office staff is always helpful and energetic, and they have always been flexible when working with other providers. Our visits are always thorough and we leave with a great understanding of what's next.
I was referred to Dr. Kao by my PCP when he heard a heart murmur in my son’s chest at his 4 month wellness check up. When i called to make the appointment, the staff were dry, non-helpful, and did not tell me beforehand what services and tests would be done for my son’s visit. I drove an hour thinking I was going to have a consultation. When i walked in, her reception staff was rude and unwelcoming. They told me he would be having an EKG and echocardiogram done. I was surprised as they did not tell me this beforehand. We were there for 2 hours, waiting 30 minutes past my appointment time, took 30 minutes to take an eKG and oxygen (which the nurse still didn’t know how to do and dr. Kao did it in 5 minutes), and an echo. While doing the echo, the sonogram tech told me we might want to sedate him next time if he was going to be this active, which drove me crazy that she would even suggest that to me. Dr. Kao herself is an amazing physician and seems passionate about her work. Her staff is just rude and unwelcoming. And when I called again after my appointment to adjust my bill, the first time a lady yelled at me “please hold” and kept me on hold for 10 minutes. I hung up and called a second time and another lady answered me and couldn’t give me any information on the payment plan I had agreed with them on weeks prior. All in all, dr. Kao is great but her staff is the worst reception staff I have encountered.

Dr. Kao saw me while I was pregnant with my daughter. She told me to abort her right away and there was no explanation as to why. She had no bedside manner and had no care that I was young and alone. I will NEVER refer anyone to her office EVER.
Dr.Kao has been my grandsons heart cardiologist since he was born and he is now 16 yrs old. She has always been available for Cody through many hospital stays and sicknesses. She is very professional and takes time for her patients. She's not one to rush you out and make you feel like your just another patient. We wouldn't ever think of going anywhere else.
We’ve been to dr Kao for over 2 years now, and i have nothing but great restaurant things to say about her. Wait times are short, office staff is great, and and Dr Kao herself is very friendly and understanding. She listens to her patients (parents) and factors that into her assessments. I was able to get a last-minute appointment once when i needed one. I trust her expertise and value her input in my daughters care.
Dr. Kao has been caring for my childs heart condition for about 20 years. She was able to detect an aneurysm at one of our routines check ups with no other indications or symptoms.I had trusted my daughters life to her since she was born.
She has been my 8 1/2 year old daughter's cardiologist since before she was born. Her and her office have been nothing but great the entire time. Lucky to have them.
Dr. Kao has been amazing from day 1! She has brought our family much comfort through our sons's heart journey. She is very professional, knowledgeable, and extremely trustworthy. She always has a smile! Not only is she my son's cardiologist, we consider her a family friend. Very thankful to her for helping to save my son's life and being there every step of the way! She is an angel on earth and a huge blessing to our family!
Dr. Kao is amazing! She is very informative and simply amazing. From our first appointment 3 years ago to now she has always exceeded our expectations. Very knowledgeable and trustworthy!
I had a horrible experience at Dr. Kao's office. I brought my eight-year-old in for an EKG which was performed by a nurse in Dr. Kao's office; I asked for a copy of the results, it was printed for me, and there were several concerns listed on the print-out, along with the words "abnormal ecg." I was shocked. I asked how much it would be to see Dr. Kao about the EKG, the nurse spoke with Dr. Kao about my request, and then I was told it would be $400. I couldn't believe Dr. Kao would not even come meet me in person, though she was right outside the hall, to just shake my hand and inform me that the EKG may be inaccurate. Being told that it would be $400 for her to see me made me think the EKG must be accurate. I made direct eye contact with Dr. Kao upon leaving, yet still, she said nothing to me. The next 24 hours were really hard for my family and myself - in shock about the EKG results, without any guidance given us by Dr. Kao. Based on the EKG from Dr. Kao's office, my child had an echocardiogram done the next day and we met with a different pediatric cardiologist who told me that my child's heart is normal and that it is likely that the leads were incorrectly placed for the EKG. I have spoken with Dr. Kao and she refuses to refund the $3000 that was billed for the echocardiogram - though we had that done due to the incorrect results of the EKG performed at her office.
I literally trust Dr. Kao with the lives of my children! I was referred to Dr Kao by my ob-gyn when I was pregnant with my 1st child, because my sonogram showed that she had a serious heart defect. Dr. Kao has been wonderful through my daughter's birth and 2 open-heart surgeries. Dr Kao has been very patient with me, answers all my questions, and I was able to call her at any time when we were in the hospital if I had questions or concerns. My son also has a less serious heart defect and sees Dr Kao. Again, she was there through caths, and surgery. Both of my kids love her and consider her family.
