List of John Mchenry's Reviews
Let me start by saying if you are considering seeing Dr McHenry please read every one star or two star reviews those are the ones that by actual patients. Unfortunately I take two of our children there when they were teenagers. Our son was referred by a children's hospital in Dallas and our daughter we just took there because he was the only one around that we could find. Dr McHenry has zero patient skills. His offices are dirty, have holes in the walls, stains on the floor. You can go for an 8:00 in the morning appointment and expect to be there through lunch. Every time you go he puts you through as many tests as possible so he can build as much as he wants. Our son was treated briefly by him and dismissed from care. Our daughter was more complicated. At the age of 15 he put her on 14 different medications to reduce fluid around her eyes. The fluid is causing migraines. The medication he had her on included multiple diuretics which had her in the hospital getting IV fluids every other day. She ended up missing her sophomore year of high school having to be homeschooled because of the frequent ER visits. He told us one cure was a VP shunt but he refused to send us to a neurosurgeon to discuss that with him. He wanted to keep testing her multiple times a week and just kept adding medication. He did do two optic nerve sheath decompressant surgeries we should not improve the situation at all which did not improve the situation at all. We kept requesting medical records for both of our kids to be sent to their primary doctor for their records and he never would do it. After the surgeries didn't help and the constant ER visits we finally pulled our daughter from his care and took her to a neurologist and neurosurgeon. They put the VP shunt and she had no problem since then. Unfortunately my son began having more problems this week and we referred back to him. The referring doctor left four messages for their office trying to get my son an appointment and they wouldn't return their calls. I called and was told they would call me back for the appointment time. Instead I get a call saying well Dr McHenry doesn't want to see anyone in your family again because you pulled your daughter from our care and requested your records. I thought that was the patient's right to get the wrong records. As a parent I was not going to continue putting my daughter through repeated ER visits and for our visits with the doctor that only stayed in the room for 80 seconds. That's being generous and yes I did time them multiple times. Their equipment is outdated and dirty. For a doctor that has that many patients and charges outrageous money to the insurance companies and patients his office should be clean not look like you're going to a slum office. His office had folding chairs in the waiting room, Pepto-Bismol colored walls and some of the rooms are in, stained floors, dirty rugs, dirty equipment, and EKG machine that wasn't just a little stickers on your chest and legs this is little suction cups like from the Cold war era. He did not explain anything to either us or our children. Absolutely the worst doctor I've ever seen. He definitely failed bedside manner 101. I am really surprised he still has his medical license. After reading the most recent reviews on him where he's making a staff where raincoats and gas mask type things I understand why people get scared walking in his office. He is by far the most unprofessional doctor ever. My son is actually ecstatic that's the doctor refused to see him. All these one and two star reviews should give you a warning. Find another doctor or you'll be the next one writing one of these reviews. I truly believe anything over a three-star was written by one of his staffers. And by the way we have witnessed him screaming, swearing and belittling his staff like they are worthless human beings. Run away, run far far away or you going to truly regret stepping foot in his filthy office sitting for 4 hours to
I have been to Dr. McHenrys three different times. This last time was not helpful what so ever. He walked in the room told my mother move over and sit down. Rude. No hello, good morning nothing. I started asking questions he cuts us short and said "No I will not do any of that" and walks out. Well who will answer my concerning questions now. I lost my job because of dr. McHenrys finding and he cuts me short. Go find a dr that will have the time to talk with you about what was found. Just don't go here
I wish I had listened to others and read reviews. 1 star now not even appropriate. You see his assistants more than him. I think each visit with him lasted a minute or two. He looked in my eyes and spoke to his male scribe. When I asked him about treatments, results, diagnosis I was informed he doesn’t discuss that with patients. Even some of the staff would only half work with you and acted bothered they had to do their job.Not to mention the wearing of weird rain coats for the staff. The dr had a weird smell, duct taped snow gloves on his hands, surgical booties taped on to his feet, same long weird coat, and almost like a gas mask. Horrible bed side manner!! DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!
Do not accept a referral to this Doctor. He is unprofessional, will not answer questions about conditions, walks in to give you 2 minutes of his time and walks out. Doesn't stop him from ordering two thousand dollars of tests that don't tell him anything and not responding to other doctor's offices when they are trying to ask for status on things. Seek anyone else.
Before reading the negative reviews on Dr. McHenry, go read his bio that's on his website. If you're a patient he's the guy you want. If you want cuddly, buy a stuffed animal.
Terrible. He is consistently rude, treats his patients like items on an assembly line, and does not answer questions about condition, or gives ridiculous non answers that basically equate to "do what I say or you will go blind." There is no consistency around what he says and the treatment plan (i.e. "you are doing good" could mean a one month follow up or a three month follow up) and no discussion of long term plans or reasoning behind what seems to be excessive testing, besides the aforementioned "you will go blind if we don't." I would stop going or go to a different doctor if he didn't continue to make me come in quarterly for my refills of medication, along with the fact that there are few, if any, other options in the area for practitioners dually specialized in ophthalmology and neurology, which is the recommendation for my condition.
If you have the unfortunate need to be referred to someone who is so specialized that there are only 3 doctors in the DFW area that have his credentials, then you aren't looking for a bestie- you are looking for a brain! Dr. McHenry is polite and to the point. His staff takes care of the warm and fuzzies if you need them. But I didn't. I needed answers. I needed tests ordered. I needed medications prescribed. If you, like me, have been to multiple doctors looking for help, Dr. McHenry is very good at what he does, just don't expect a new BFF.
terrible communication. never get consistent communication and Dr. McHenry is always in too much of a rush to bother answering questions regarding my health condition. seems as though he knows he is one of a few doctors that is so specialized and is complacent in just pumping as many patients in and out of the office as possible.
I spent half a day running tests on my eyes. I had been referred to Dr. McHenry by Texas Retina Associates. The whole time I was there, I had a feeling like I was in some horror movie. There were so many people running around in black rain coats with hoods. I had a bad feeling about the place, so I asked one of the women testing me if she even knew the doctor. She did not. Dr. McHenry came in for about ten seconds, and said yes - you have a problem. Well, I already knew I had a problem...that was why I was there. When I got home, I looked up the write-ups about Dr. McHenry. They were all true. On advise from a friend, I cancelled my next appointment and went to UT Southwestern. I went through about two hours of tests, and the doctor sat with me for about half an hour explaining things to me and my husband. Such a difference. It may be that Dr. McHenry is a good doctor, but his approach is such that I could not risk it. In addition, his release form that you have to sign when you come in is longer than any I have ever seen. That says a lot because my husband has had brain surgery and we did not have to sign as many pages of releases. I'm with the other patient that said RUN AWAY!
I am an eye surgeon and I just wanted people to know he is one of few Neuro Ophthalmologists in the state, he is over worked as when people are going blind and we need a second opinion for rare issues we all use him as the final referral doc. This is the hardest sub specialty in Ophthalmology and the reason he sees so many is that is hard telling some one that has Optic nerve pain and vision loss not to come and go to another doc, when no one around is doing that specialty. If people knew what it takes to do the job, they would be ok with the extra waiting time.I have never met him, but I have sent some patients from hospital that were blind and no one else was willing to take them on! I may have been the hero to the patient, but I do not do his types of surgeries and we made him take that patient that day and she comes every year to thank me because I personally called him to accept the patient for nerve decompression surgery that I do not do! Its also very hard surgery .If you had 120 people needing help to see on daily basis, dealing with insurance issues that mostly do not pay....then you would see why he is running around and has so little time.Michael Mazaheri MD ( M LASIK CENTER)

All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
