Dr. Hughes appears to be a competent and knowledgeable surgeon and expert. However, my experience with him over the course of 8 months of treatment was very dissatisfying. While he attempted to answer questions, it often felt that he was going through the motions. When giving scary information or diagnoses, he would provide pamphlets on conditions rather than showing recognition of how scary it could be for a patient to receive that information. His bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired. If you want basic empathy, a sense of warmth, or for him to instill hope in you, you're not going to find that. I did not feel encouraged by him, rather very discouraged at the end of each visit. I felt somewhat pressured to be done asking questions as well. On the day of my surgery, he was not available to answer my questions and his medical assistant got back to me the following week when the question was no longer relevant. He's not very accessible. I'd recommend you continue your search if you want to feel emotionally validated by your physician.

Got a surgery that should have simply been to remove a tumor but have had nothing but pain and suffering since i woke from anastesia from dealing with this guy, he had a horrible bedside manner and didn't listen to a word i said when i insisted i couldn't feel my own leg! I do not reccomend him at all i do not even reccomend you send a rat his way he'll probably permanently damage it's leg too. DO NOT GO TO THIS SURGEON! I even gave him an opportunity to fix his obvious mess since he caused me cauda equina through his negligence and he didn't even want to do that! insanity!! for the love of god spare yourself.

Awful!! Drove 4 hours from okc and had this appointment booked for months. Paid over $ 200 at the appt to get a cream and told that my physician back home and the emergency room were both incorrect and treated the wrong thing. it was a reoccurring problem for 8years but he said he didn’t see it, AS WELL AS saying he was “unable to check”. He was referred by another physician and proceeded to act like he’d never heard of them! He became rude and unprofessional after I doubted him and brought my Medical business out of the patient room we were in, to in front of his staff asking 4-6 staff about the referring physician and embarrassed the hell out of me because the other physician and him don’t work on the same issue, they were just going to correct it all at once. Left to see the referring physician and they were appalled at him acting clueless and bringing this up in front of staff. They no longer refer to him. I would not recommend anyone waste their time on such an unprofessional.

Booking an appointment is easy, with several site and time options. Great office staff, convenient location. Dr. Hughes takes time to talk about your issues, treatment plans, and outcomes. Really great bedside manner, and talented doctor.

In October of 2019 I was admitted to the hospital for an emergency Diverticulitis abscess procedure. I met several doctor's during my stay, and all were caring and took really good care of me. The primary colorectal doctor assigned to me was Dr. Hughes. He is truly the best! Dr. Hughes took time to explain details about my condition, and walked me through the surgical process. He worked directly with my surgeon. The best part of my one week hospital stay were the daily visits by Dr. Hughes. He always made me feel like I was in good hands. I have gone for one follow up visit in his Dallas office since my hospital stay, and I was extremely satisfied with the entire office staff. Everyone is so nice and caring. I have a couple more hurdles ahead in my wellness journey, but in Dr. Hughes hands, I feel assured that I am receiving the best care.

I was nervous and fretful coming in to discuss my health with Dr Hughes. He calmed my worries by explaining my tests, exams, and options in terms that was easily understandable. His voice and facial expressions are gave me a sense of his sincerity that is very refreshing for a patient whenever surgery has to be discussed. He listened to me and helped me to make me feel validated and like I was part of my own care plan. I appreciated that he offered me a conservative approach and didn't go straight to the surgical route, because my health conditions are complicated and he looked at the BIG picture. He gave me short term and long term goals and treatment options. He explained every part of my physical exam prior to performing any procedure. He was gentle, professional, and respectful. He even let me ask him if any patients ever have a difficulty looking at him in the eyes after such exams ... I know I felt ackward, but I know that I have confidence in his knowledge and expertise !!! Thanks, Doc!!! Great staff!! Shoutout ty of Brooke and her awesome "Brooke SMILE" !! Very informative and explained problems and resolutions in a way you could understand. He did a great job helping solve my GI problems and on top of that discovered another potential life-threatening issue that I was not aware of. I am very grateful to Dr. Hughes and his staff for assisting me in my care. Many thanks and God bless you all.

Let me start by saying Dr. Hughes is a very friendly doctor and made me feel at ease. I have seen Dr. Hughes at both of his locations, but I do prefer his Carrollton location. His nurse and receptionist at that office are much more friendly than the other location. If you are needing a doctor in his specialist I highly recommend him.
