Mazin Al Tamimi Md's Online Review Report Card

My experience has not been good. He is adrupt, kept telling me what the other drs I'd seen should have done but not what he would do, was not good at listening or explaining why I needed more injections when I have broken hardware in my pelvis, will not return calls or allow a follow-up appointment, and his nurse responds thru the portal in short terse sentences, yet does not answer questions either. After 6 weeks of calling once a week, I finally had to get the administrator of the Spinal Clinic to intervene and find out exactly what the next steps in my treatment should be. I was getting no where - still not sure I am now. Seen another doc, got injectiosn but still can't get an appt with Al Timimi to discuss how to fix the broken hardware. It's been about 4 months...

I had a very poor experience with Dr. Tamimi. He talked over us, spoke primarily to my husband even though I was the patient and we finally had to interrupt him to ask a question about imaging which showed I had craniocervical instability. Dr. Tamimi 's answer was to inform us he does not diagnose and relies on the radiologist to diagnose, and he performs surgery based upon others diagnoses/recommendations. We left with no answers and no help. A complete and utter waste of time. It was by far the worst surgeon appointment I have ever had because we couldn't even have a conversation. I would not have written this review but was recently referred back to the spine clinic over a year later and have been informed I cannot see another surgeon at the spine clinic because I had been previously seen by Dr. Tamimi. I was "encouraged to seek a second opinion with an outside Neurosurgery and/or Spine practice". I have a rare genetic condition and UTSW is supposed to be a cutting edge teaching hospital where the complex can go for help and which other doctors outside UTSW always recommend. My experience time and again has been the opposite. If you are considering UTSW spine clinic I recommend a different surgeon.

Dr. Al Tamimi is rude, has terrible bedside manners, and bad active listening skills. As a concerned patient going through a long journey of pain, he shows zero empathy and when you ask questions he responds with one or two words and does not give a full explanation or wholisitic approach/plan with other UTSW departments. I will not be taking my mother back to see him. I gave him several chances and he was the same rude, rushed, ill-mannered surgeon I've ever come across.

This Doctor was not good at listening or providing good communication. He seem like he was rushing through my appointment. I left feeling really confused. I would not recommend this Doctor for any spine issues. This Doctor did not take my health seriously.

Dr Al-Tamimi and UT Southwestern were able to fit us into a very busy end of year schedule when my wife needed emergency back surgery. While not the most gregarious man, he knew his stuff. He did a procedure that many back surgeons wouldn’t do and it went off without a hitch or complication. Thanks to Dr A-T and the team.

I love Dr. Al-Tamimi . He is brilliant. He is caring. His main concern is healing. He worked on me. It was a long and detailed surgery with lots of nerves and muscle. Replaced vertabrae. I TRUST HIM TOTALLY!! HE is AMAZING........And his STAFF

I had a surgery on 2/5/2020 to remove my spinal cord stimulator. It was supposed to be 30 minute surgery that I spent 8 1/2 hours in the hospital. 6 1/2 hours waiting for the surgery! When I saw Dr Tamimi 2 mos prior to the surgery he told me it was an easy 30 min surgery and that he would call me when he had a date that he could work me in between two different surgeries. That way he could go from room to room since mine was so short and easy. I’m told to be at Zale Lipshy at 930am. At 11am I asked what time I would be they would come get me. . The nurse said I was scheduled for 1245p!! I asked why I had to be there at 930a. She didn’t know. Said the doctors decided that. I had not seen Dr Tamimi at all . At 1pm I ask the nurse again what time I would be having surgery. She said they should be coming to get me anytime but pulled up Dr Tamimi’s schedule and said “ Well, He just started another surgery”! Dr. Tamimi walks into my room about that time and said he has had an emergency and I got upset. I asked why I had to there at 930am and reminded him of what he said during my office visit. Short quick surgery, he could go in between surgeries, etc..he said surely you understand emergencies! I told him I do but had they all been emergencies since 930a. He said well you can reschedule if you want but the longer I stand here and talk to you the longer it delays your surgery.....do you want to reschedule? I said “NO. GO....I want this thing out of me and I do not want to go through another day waiting all day”. He folds his arms and again asked “so do you want to reschedule”? I said “NO, I told you to go”...so he turns around and walks out. A nurse and anesthesiologists were in the room. I said to the anesthesiologists that (excuse my language please)” I guessed I pis*ed him off and that he would probably rip this thing out of me”. He said “no we are professional and do not get pis*ed off”. Finally at around 330pm after being there since 930am SIX HOURS they finally come get me for surgery. I am the only person left waiting for surgery. After surgery my friend is in the room with me. Around 530p The good doctor Tamimi comes in to tell me everything went really well that he was able to get everything out. And that if I didn’t want to come see him in two weeks for a checkup that would be fine. But if I wanted to come in for a checkup in a couple of weeks to call and let them know. I didn’t say a thing anything and He turned around and walked out. No I’m sorry you had to wait all day. Nothing expect if you do not want to come in in a couple of weeks that’s fine but if you want to come call and let them know! I pray I have no problems with the incisions because I really do not want to ever talk to this man again. he is very rude. I had someone picking me up and had to continue calling her to say I’m still waiting. I have no idea what time they will come get me. Dr Tamimi has No consideration for the patients time whatsoever!

He seem's to really care for his patients. I totally trust his recommendations for my health management.
