Texas Health Surgery Center Dallas's Online Review Report Card

This is the surgery center my podiatrist had me go to for ankle surgery and overall, it was a good experience. I appreciated that the check in process was virtual and I could fill out forms online without having to show up earlier than my crack of dawn call time.At the facility, parking was a breeze with plenty of spots in the garage, the staff was really friendly and attentive, and post-op care was great. The one thing I didn't like was that I never got a call from the anesthesiologist before surgery. It wasn't until I was about to be wheeled in that he popped up. Fortunately, I was told in advance he was in network, but I wanted to discuss my concerns with him, particularly my asthma. After asking me when my last attack was (I stressed that I haven't had 1 in nearly a decade because I don't put myself in those situations), he said not to worry and as a precaution, I opted to use my inhaler. Sure enough, I had an asthma attack or "coughing fit" as he put it while under anesthesia with the tube in my throat. Nothing else was said about it and that bothered me because when he mentioned it post-op, I was clearly not in the right state of mind to say "tell me more" or get more info from him for future reference.Another thing that I'm not too fond of is that ever since surgery, I've had this weird mark on the top of my foot. It almost looks like a burn, but this ugly inch long scar wasn't there when I arrived, has nothing to do with my surgery spot (the incisions were on the medial side of my ankle, not the top of my foot), and yet appeared after the surgery went down. I was told by my podiatrist that it's probably a rub burn from the bandage application being too tight. I find it strange that 6 weeks after surgery, you can hardly see the surgical incision points and yet, this scar is still on full display. It would be great to know what really caused it and what happened during surgery.

I sincerely feel sorry for anyone whose only choice for an ER is the Texas Heath on Walnut Hill in Dallas. The evening ER nurses in the waiting room area are amongst the rudest, most sarcastic pseudo health care personnel we have ever encountered. If it weren't for risking leaving against medical advice, I would have called an ambulance to take my child straight to another hospital. What other hospital has makeshift Triage areas smack dab in the MIDDLE of an extremely overcrowded, unsanitary, Beirut styled police patrolled lobby, only to be taken back to another triage area that separates the patients by using hospital blankets. I felt bad when the police officer advised the same rude staff that there weren't any clean blankets for patients in the lobby requesting one, and nurse Karen aptly replied that they do not give out blankets to patients in the lobby... wow. I was dumbfounded by then. I asked to go back and see my son and was told off the bat that if I did, I have to be the only one, no one else can come back because they don't swap visitors, at all. I'd have to stay in the back with him until he was discharged, admitted, or probably die without a chance for food, bathroom break or fresh air. Save yourself and your loved ones.. avoid their ER at all costs until the have staff that will actually know what a drop of empathy means.

This review is specifically for Resident Holly Zhu, MD.I ended up at this hospital after going under cardiac arrest and flatlining for a couple of minutes during a double-jaw surgery at the surgery center down the street.My healthy 27 yo heart stopped for a couple of minutes in the middle of my surgery, I was transported to the ER at this hospital, basically having the absolute worst day of my and my family's life, and I can honestly say that my experience with Dr. Zhu was quite literally the most memorably uncomfortable and unpleasant part of it all.I was intubated for hours, going in and out of tests and "meeting" a carousel of doctors I hardly kept memory of as they all tried doing something with my body, trying to find answers. Dr.Zhu was the only one who not only insisted on asking me dozens upon dozens of questions WHILE I was intubated, quite literally expecting an answer from me every time; visually seeing me in pain and unable to answer her as I had a tube down my nose and throat...but she insisted on asking me questions even AFTER I very painstakingly wrote down "no more questions please" on a piece of paper I was doing my best to communicate and answer all of her questions, those that were being either answered by my family members or were provided by the surgical team I had been with during my cardiac arrest. She verbatim said "okay no more questions but I do have a couple more to ask". She not only disregarded my discomfort and pain but she asked the absolute most inappropriate and uncomfortable questions directly in front of my parents and underaged brother. Please tell me what doctor in their right mind asks a patient who is crying from the pain she's in and is intubated if she smokes weed or does cocaine, in front of her parents or underaged brother. Even if I had been a raging addict, do you think asking that in front of a patient's older parents or underaged brother is something you should be doing?! Very loudly might I add. "And you don't do cocaine at all?!"It took my underaged brother and my ICU nurse to advocate for me in that moment as Dr.Holly Zhu did not show any interest in doing so herself.I truly hope you read this review Dr. Zhu, as well as your attending Dr.Gill, and you use this feedback as something that helps you become a better doctor.Later on, during an ICU check, Dr.Zhu proceeded to check my lungs and chest and asked for me to allow her to see the stitches within my gums that had the left side of my face double the size in swelling, in what I had described as an 8.5 on the pain scale, solely out of curiosity. Unless Dr. Zhu Is thinking of joining plastics, I find it hard to understand why she'd even ask to put a patient in such an uncomfortable position out of pure curiosity; specially when I was in the ICU for heart failure and pneumonia, not the stitching skills from the plastic surgeon who'd been operating on me hours earlier.Had I not been going through the entire rollercoaster of the previous 16 hours or had i had the mental clarity I have now that I'm off an abundance of pain medications, I would have asked for Dr.Zhu to be removed from my medical team immediately.The most memorable and unpleasant event was how physically and emotionally uncomfortable I felt while under the care of Dr. Zhu. Perhaps my review is considered harsh by some; but I think it's more than fair for my honest thoughts to be shared about someone that was supposed to bring comfort and medical professionalism to my time in the hospital.For the sake of your future patients, I beg that you work on your bed side manner Dr.Zhu.I wish you the best in your career Dr.Zhu. Perhaps you're a first or second year resident and are still learning the type of doctor you want to be, but from one very unhappy and dissatisfied patient to a medical provider, I will always remember my experience with you for all the wrong reasons.On the other side, ICU nurse Katie C. Is quite literally the most amazing nurse I've ever experienced in my life. This hospital needs more Nurse Katies.

I was injuring in a diving accident. I cut my head, had some hair skinned off by the impact, and landed on my neck pretty hard. I came here in excruciating pain and i am going on 2 1/2 hours in the waiting room. let me just put emphasis on this: i Sustained a head and neck injury-clearly serious. I was told that patients were being seen in order of severity, but several People are being Put ahead of me. I feel like I'm being treated like some kind of drug seeker because excruciating pain + head injury + neck injury is very severe and yet I am pushed to the side. If I want drugs I don't have to spend all day at an er for like 10 pills, I can look on various social media and find an instant drug dealer. What I need is to be treated like I matter. As we speak I am now seeing the doctor who immediately took action and took me serious. During this time, one of the nurses made some snarky comments and I will be calling the hospital director tomorrow. You are an admissions nurse, not a doctor. You don't get to decide my level of pain. It's 5:24 pm may 31st, so the short and fat blond nurse is the judgy judgington working. Don't go to her because she will treat you like a liar and then make slick comments on top of it all. However the doctor was amazing once I saw her

They literally killed my father by failing to identify and treat a fungal infection that took hold four days after he moved from ICU into the regular hospital. The ER and ICU care was very good. The problems began when he was moved into the general hospital. Their hand washing protocols are focused on changing gloves versus washing hands. My father needed moisture on his lips and in his mouth. The staff came in and swabbed him with a gel without washing their hands. They claimed their protocol was to change gloves versus washing hands. We suspect that is why he contracted a massive, untreatable fungal infection that went into his mouth and down his throat. They refused to take a biopsy or investigate the origin of the fungus. It is was killed him. The overall care was substandard in almost every area. Please, please, do not allow a loved one to end up at this hospital. This doesn't even begin to describe the dirty condition of the room, poor nursing care and attendance, lack of access to his charts and doctors, etc. We ONLY ended up there (versus UTSW or Baylor) because the EMT's took him to the closest hospital from CCYoung campus. Please, please, stay away from this hospital.

My father's surgery went great and his oral surgeon was wonderful! His stay at the hospital for almost 10 days was a nightmare!!! Very minimal to no care at times and uncaring staff! Everyday I visited my dad he was laying in his own feces or urine. When I askedfor help to clean him it would take another two to four hours for anyone to come help. I would clean him best I could but was too hard to move him by myself. Also only one person per visit per day is not reasonable! My mother is older and needed help getting to his room and couldn't visit long due to her health but no help from the staff at this hospital at all!! I am convinced my father barely escaped with his life out of there. Thank goodness I documented everything and they got uncomfortable so they released him to another facility which is so much nicer and more attentive. My father's health has improved leaps and bounds in just two days with this new hospital and it's care. Do not go to Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas if you care about your loved one's life.

The doctors, nurses in this HORRIBLE organization are unethical disgusting human beings that could care less about the health, safety, well being and lives of their patients!! I personally witnessed it happen!! IF YOU VALUE YOUR LIFE OR THE LIFE OF A LOVED ONE STAY AWAY FROM THIS ORGANIZATION! You've been warned!Texas Medical Board and TX AG have to open investigations into this corrupt organization!

I was scheduled to have a procedure performed here, but they decided I was too high risk and refused me THE DAY BEFORE THE SURGERY. This is absolutely a decision that should have been made before my case was accepted, not at the last minute. They had even taken over $1000 from me (they didn't hassle me about giving it back.) But why make such a decision the day before, when I have already made plans for childcare and everything?

I must say it helps when you have trust in your medical physicians. Texas Health has earned mine. The organization is very organized and their medical staff are very courteous and professional. I and my spouse feel like they truly care about our medical needs and health. They are definitely worth every penny I spend. I highly suggest to utilize their service if ever possible. Stay safe and healthy.
