List of Choice Hospice's Reviews
Terrible service. My mother was placed in this Company's care and admitted to local hospital on medical surgical floor. This company was to manage her care and provide hospice care. WHAT A JOKE !!! In her last 12 hours, she was suffering due to lack of hospice knowledge from the medical surg nurses. When I call the on call nurse, she heard my mother's labored/suffering breathing and was on her way. Her night leadership stopped the visit and chose to "educate" the facility staff even after I had requested their presence. TOTALLY unprofessional and failed to provide service. To add further injury, this person discussed their opinion to family members who were NOT present. Been in the business 30 years and appalled at their lack of care and service. Plenty of other professional services in the area.
It is everything about the care is the best in every way I would say Excellent
I was shocked to see poor reviews. I can only attest to my experience, which has been stellar. The people who maintain the medical equipment as well as the nursing staff have all been timely, professional and endearing. Medications, equipment delivery, and nurse visits were always prompt. I daresay this outfit exceeded all of my expectations.
They mostly have LVN nurses who lack competency and knowledge. My father's oxygen level was 84 before his kidney failed and Nurse Kitte told us that it was OK, a day before my father passed away. I wish I knew that it was not OK. My father had dementia and he was getting better at the home. I called AMED and told them that my father has not passed any urine in the last 10 hours and Nurse Monica told me that wait until tomorrow for the antibiotic when I insisted. Pathetic.
I am very disappointed with services that your company provided... I called hospice at 11:15 because my mother was having a episode... Do you know when the nurse came? She came at six that evening... By that time my had already transition.. I think it is sad that the company doesn’t have nurses around the surrounding area where I stay.. This company is very unprofessional and you don’t even deserve one star.. You have good nurses but y’all don’t handle business for as where you send nurses when they are on call. I wish I would I have never went through this company... Terrible company but the nurses are sweet..
KISS OF DEATH should be the name of this Hospice Company. These are the reasons why: 1) The pain medication their doctor prescribed for the patient was too strong(even the hospital doctor would not give it to the patient when asked about it by a family member) and was similar in kind to the medicine that the patient was allergic to, so much so that the patient was unable to communicate to the people around him because it totally knocked him out and it caused the patient to be delirious and agitated when the effects of the medicine started weaning off 2) So instead of changing the medicine, they gave the patient another medication to stop the deliriousness and agitation which further knocked the patient out.3) The hospice employees tried convincing the patient's family members that every time the patient moves, (because he was agitated and delirious due to the adverse side effect of the medication, duh!) that the patient was in pain and advised them to give the patient more medicine. Don't get me wrong: the patient had aches and pains like we all do but nothing that would justify the medication he was given that ultimately caused the demise of the patient 4) Ultimately, being knocked out for so long due to the medication eventually led to the lungs filling up with fluid according to the hospice LVN 5) They also advised the family member to limit the fluid intake of the patient because they were concerned about a heart condition the patient had.I'm sorry, why would hospice personnel care about the amount of fluid intake of a patient if the patient will eventually die? Or could it be possible that they were hastening the death of the patient by dehydrating the patient, taking away the patient's physical abilities and mentation? In most states in America, killing another person is considered murder, even if the intention is to "ease the pain", even if the person has a terminal illness.Friends, if you do not know what mercy killing or euthanasia is,this is the epitome of it. The hospice companies advertise that they care for the patient and their family. Yes, AMED community hospice cared enough to euthanize the patient and not give the patient a dignified death, for they took away what the patient still had prior to hospice care and during hospice care and that was the MENTATION and physical ability of the patient to still be able to get in/out of bed/restroom because they drugged the patient wrongly which led to the hastened demise of the patient. So to everyone out there looking for hospice care, continue communicating with your regular physicians because it seems like the Hospice business is just a prop for organizations supporting Euthanasia.Concerned citizen of USA-BC
During what was the most difficult time for my wife and family, the staff at AMED made that time much more bearable. The staff is caring and attentive and always prepared to do whatever was needed to make my wife comfortable during her final months. They addressed her biggest fears and made sure that her final months were as peaceful and pain free as possible. The support staff was always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that all of us were attended to. The minister even came to her memorial and spoke about his time with her which is above and beyond their normal services. I can't say enough about these folks and while I hope nobody ever needs hospice services, if you do I would highly recommend AMED.
This hospice company was referred by physician. This company fails/lacks at so many things. I see no compassion nor respect for the dying, they are the worst at communication! Nursing didnt hardly come out to visit but once a week. When I was in need of hospice to come out to visit patient, Id hear excuses to why nursing wasnt available. I was also told that when the time came, I would have a nurse (crisis care) in my home 24/7. That never happened. The social worker lacks knowledge of her responsibilities & needs to show compassion instead of immaturity. The only best thing from this company were the aides who provided care, Monica & Maria... to end this: The care was horrible, lack of compassion, communication, response, availability, I personally would NOT recommend this company! I switched to Fairmont Hospice! They provided the upmost best care!
My experience with A-Med Hospice was beyond disappointing. I will not use them again and I would not recommend them to anyone else. When my Mother was diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer, her doctor referred us to A-Med Hospice. The lady who signed us up for hospice assured us that when my Mother was in the final stages of dying that an A-Med nurse would be by her bedside to tend to her 24/7. That did not happen. In fact, I was told by the on call nurse that saw my Mother the day that she died, that was not true, should never have been promised to us and they had a shortage of nurses. So, me and my siblings were left alone to administer the morphine and other medications to try to keep her comfortable during the last 12 hours of my Mother's life. Also, the on call nurse that came the day my Mother died did two very simple things that made her more comfortable. She removed the humidifier from her concentrator and gave her a cannula that was soft, stayed in her nose and did not cut into the sides of her cheeks. Why didn't her regular nurse do that for her 2 weeks earlier? And finally, after my Mother passed away, it took A-Med 2 1/2 hours before they came to the house. I do not feel that my Mother was treated with respect while she was living or after she died.
The team at Amed provided my father compassionate, attentive Care during his last days. The were a comfort to my family, providing us information about the process, answering all our questions and explaining what to expect. Case Manager Donna C. Made quick assessments and was supported by her team to elevated my dad's care when his condition worsened. Ensuring that he had the care he needed. The nursing team of Rachel, Tammy and Gift were attentive and caring making an awful situation bearable. A mere thank you is not nearly enough. The clergy and social worker support helped us obtain information and services easing our burden. If you find yourself in the difficult position of coordinating hospice care, and are looking for advise, please know that I would strongly recommend Amed. --Wanda C.
