Best cardiologist
I WAS SO SICK AND HAD TO SEE MY CARDIOLOGIST BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO HAVE SURGERY. I HAD THE SURGERY AND DR. PORTUGAL WENT TO SEE ME TWICE A DAY IN THE HOSPITAL AS WELL AND HELPED ME THRU IT ALL. VERY SWEET DR AND WILL ANSWER ALL YOUR QUESTIONS BEFORE LEAVING YOU. I WAS CONFUSSED BUT I LEARNED A LOT FROM DR. PORTUGAL. YAY!!!
One of the best .
I found Dr. Portugal thorough in his assessment of my situation. He explained my situation in laymen terms. I also appreciate his empathy and compassion. I grateful that I found a Interventionist Cardiologist that I’m totally confident, he is on my team and sincerely cares. After all, my life is in his hands due my heart disease, and I’m confident and comfortable with his decisions on my behalf.
I cannot say much about the doctor because my husband saw him only once, but the staff communication is horrible. So hard to get in touch with them. Then I finally got in contacted with the answering service and he did not allow me to ask questions and talked to fast to understand what he was saying. I am very unhappy with this service.
Based on a recommendation from my primary doctor, I called to make an appointment with Dr Portugal. They couldn’t accommodate an appointment any earlier than 3 months out. I waited 3 months and then got a call from his office that he needed to reschedule. He pushed it for another month. After another month of waiting, his staff called again, this time extremely rude, wanting to reschedule again, to more than one month later. Needless to say, I canceled. It is mind boggling how much disregard there is from his side, to expect a patient to wait over 5 months for examination. What kind of doctor is this? Maybe the kind who has too much money and could not be bothered to care.
I saw Dr Portugal for a period of time in the late 90's to 2000. Diagnosis dilated cardiomyopathy. In 2000, the last time I went to him, he shook his head and said there was nothing he could do, that I was terminal. Fortunately all that did was make me angry and I started researching Cardiologists and Electrophysiologists. I found an excellent Cardiologist and an excellent Electrophysiologist. 18 years after Portugal told me I was dying, I am still here and my heart has healed, and 3 days from now I will be getting my third ICD. Don't ever take the word of this doctor, it is your life, and like me, another doctor may save it.

I was VERY disappointed with the manner of this Dr. I honestly think he was butt hurt because my family member hadn't been back to his office in a while. He was going to "compromise" the dose of a blood thinner. If someone needs a certain dose then say it. Don't be wishy-washy about a medication dose, especially something as important as a blood thinner. He didn't act like he cared about the patient AT ALL. The meds he prescribed were causing side effects. However he wants to refer us to another doctor instead of fixing the problem caused by his prescription. The only reason I gave him two stars is because I liked the STAFF.
Wonderful care by Dr. Portugal as well as his staff!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
