Dr.stephen k Tyring was the worst doctor I have ever had, and so was his office and his staff. This doctor charged me $250 but didn't give me the prescription he was supposed to give me and now he wants another $250 to give me my prescription. This doctor and his office have no interest in the patient and are only after money. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM AND THIS OFFICE! By the way they never responded to phone calls The worst Dr office ever!
I would give 0 stars if I could. Our long-time dermatologist moved to this practice 1 year ago and we have had nothing but problems since. Our original dermatologist left and the new dermatologist we saw sat on results for over a week without follow-up and kept sending our prescriptions to a mail order pharmacy despite our request to use our local Walgreens. Twice the clinic made an appointment with us, then didn't inform us that the doctor wasn't in the office that day. The practice was sold twice in the past year, changing EMR systems each time and necessitating a complete redo of all patient forms. Previous test results and records were not imported into the new EMR, meaning that we had to inform the treating physician of where in the treatment cycle we were. We are much happier after finding a new, well-run practice.
Unreachable and do not provide test results in estimated timeline. Difficult to book appointments and get a hold of anyone by phone even after becoming a patient. No email or patient portal is available either. Go someplace else.
AVOID. This is literally the worst physician experience I have ever had. Dr. Mays took one look at my skin and decided she wanted to make some extra money with a biopsy of a mole. I have now called the office literally 20 times and they will not return my phone call and tell me whether the mole was cancerous. I have been wondering for weeks. I'm obviously hoping it was not cancer. They probably would have called if it was, just to make more money off of me with a removal.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This office is a literal dumpster fire. I have been trying to get my pathology report to see if the mole they removed was cancerous and they will not return my call. I've literally called 50 times over the last 2-3 weeks. Dr Mays clearly took one look at me and decided she wanted to bill for a mole removal, but now I cannot even get some verification that it (hopefully) wasn't cancerous. Dr Mays also had no interest in my other dermatological concerns and basically said you have to book another appointment to talk about anything else. Obviously they just want money.
I saw Dr. Mays about a cyst on my upper lip. I wanted to see about having it removed. I wasn't in her office for 5 minutes and she was pushing a needle into my lip saying I had to have a biopsy. She said the cyst wouldn't be completely removed but would look better. My concerns were not discussed and options were not discussed. Dr. Mays did what she wanted and I was left with a larger opening on my upper lip. When Dr. Mays took off the skin for the biopsy my cyst was opened. I now look like I have a large piercing in my upper lip. I've had multiple people ask me if I have a piercing. Dr. Mays didn't address my needs. I will now have to go to a plastic surgeon. I would hope a doctor would take more care when working on a person's face. Billing is also an issue. I received a bill and paid it in Nov. 2025. Today, I received another bill for the same thing I already paid. When I called to clear it up, I was told the practice was sold and I'd have to contact the old owner. I tried to contact the old owner, but could only leave a voicemail. Who knows if I'll ever hear back.
I've been using Houston Skin Care for years, and I can no longer recommend them! I had an appointment just two weeks ago and have been unable to get a prescription refill for a medication I've been using for years! The staff is simply incompetent now. I've called dozens of times, left messages and emails and have received no return calls or emails, and when my prescription was finally called in, it was for the wrong medication which is NOT covered under medical insurance. I still have been unable to get my original medication refilled. It's simply incompetence on the part of the staff. I no longer recommend this dermatology clinic!
I left and transferred care to Kelsey Seybold. The many poor reviews here are consistent . I saw Dr. Rana Mays, and have heard same issues with Dr. Turning 1. I waited 20 to 40 minutes past appointment Start time to see the doctor Who will spend 1-5 minutes with you which contributes to patients feeling overwhelmed and rushed 2. I was Incorrectly charged ~$140 for a biopsy that should've been zero dollars. I suspect this would not have been refunded to me if I did not call my insurance myself and discover the mistake 3. delays and mistakes in refilling medication
I would give it a zero if I could.
I should have read some of these reviews before I booked my appointment. I met with Dr. Trying who could not have spent a total of 3 minutes with me. He froze a few spots on my scalp and said he would call in a prescription for a rash I had. Couldn't be bothered to give me the once over for any skin issues since this was my first visit. It's been three days and nobody has yet to call in my prescription to my pharmacy. Three voice mails, an email and no response whatsoever. Terrible experience. Just glad it was nothing serious.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
