Rarely in you life will you find someone as skilled and as compassionate as Dr. Smalling. My father had his first heart procedure with him when he was part of a clinical trial that Dr. Smalling and his colleagues proposed. That was 13 years ago. From then on my father would go in for regular checkups and they became great friends over the years. My father recently had to have another another emergency clinical trial procedure but his recovery did not go as expected. Dr. Smalling fought tirelessly pursuing every possible way to help my father, and confessed he had spent many tireless nights thinking of anything he could do to help but unfortunately his heart was not strong enough. There are no words to express the gratitude I have for him and recommend him in the highest esteem possible.
Dr. Smalling is a great doctor! not only on professional side. He’s very understanding and listens to your concerns. He always takes time to check with patient after surgery and clearly explains the progress and medicine used. I can thoroughly recommend him.
Some of what the previous reviewer wrote are true: Dr. Smalling is in tremendous demand. If you are lucky enough to get a referral to him, and if you are lucky enough to be accepted by him - consider yourself doubly blessed!
12 years ago I suffered two TIA's. One in Iraq and one when I came home. It was discovered that I needed a PFO closure. I can tell you without a doubt that I had the best doctor. Dr. Smalling put an Amplatzer PFO Occluder in my heart. I went back last year for a 10 year checkup, a little late, here in KY. Everything was great. Dr. Smalling tells you like he sees it but also cares tremendously. I highly recommend.
He and his staff provided me great care during my stay in hospital during my triple by pass surgery. Daily visits and monitoring of my progress was very helpful.
Great for surgical issues. Anything else you are kind of on your own. He sees patients in office once per week on Wednesdays. Patients are double and triple booked so be prepared for your appointment to take about 2 hours. Your time with him will be really brief so any questions you have MIGHT be answered. So if you are looking for someone that is going to take time with you and give you a really good understanding of things, keep looking.

All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
