I have known Dr. Nelson since her medical college days and observed her dedication to the study of medicine and eventually psychiatric care of her patients through her residency and eventually her work on inpatient unit at Covenant Medical Center as an ABPN certified Psychiatrist. She is a very knowledgeable psychiatrist and cares deeply for her patients.
I'm 19 and began seeing her when i was 17-18 and have already stopped, even though i was an adult she still consistently chose to speak to my parents over me. Even though she was my psychologist. She seems like she doesn't really know what works best for anything, I tried about 3 ADHD medications in less than two weeks. Also, once you do anything to get on her bad side there is nothing you can do to get off it. She took me off of medication that actually helped me for "Abuse" when she herself had told me they were the wrong pills and that I shouldn't take them, so logically I threw the pills in the trash, and that's what qualified as medication abuse. (legit zero history of medication abuse or anything) My parents literally dug them out of the trashcan to show her, but she didn't want to hear anything. She'll put her opinion before your best interest.
I have been a patient for a couple years now. Dr Nelson is attentive to you're needs and treats you like a friend. I have always felt comfortable telling her anything without any kind of judgment. If there's a recommendation for medication she will ask if you want to try it. I really appreciate that I like to know the symptoms and if it's worth the risk. Her staff is friendly and polite. Definitely would recommend
I worked with Dr. Nelson for almost a decade, she is truly one of the best there is. Not only is she knowledgeable about psych, she truly is passionate about serving her patients, and loves them deeply. She pushes herself to be the best. When you're thinking about what you want in a psychiatrist for yourself or your loved ones, she has all the qualities you want. When you choose her you're choosing the best.
She is uplifting and attentive.
My MIL was a patient of Dr. Patel’s and when he retired Dr. Nelson took over his client list. My MIL is bipolar and went through a terrible manic episode. Dr. Nelson put her on lithium and Zyprexa and when we were finally able to get her to the hospital, she was called and said to call her anytime and she would help however she could. After numerous calls the following day, Dr. Nelson was NO help at all. And now…my MIL is at home and Nelson won’t even schedule an appt to see her. She just put her on a waiting list!!! She knows what we have been through and is non-existent as a doctor. Personal family opinion is that she inherited a full clientele from Dr. Patel, and the patients that counted on him aren’t very important because she has a full load and those that are truly in dire need are being left behind. We are VERY disappointed at the lack of compassion and help. We had hoped for a good transition with someone that had newer knowledge in the area of psychiatry, but that has most definitely NOT been the case.
My Wife and Son both go to Dr Nelson, They have good things to say about her and like going to her.
You're better of finding a new psychiatrist if Dr. Patel was your previous. This woman does the bare minimum. Her office staff is unorganized and rude.
I have been seeing Dr. Nelson for a while now, and have been very happy with my treatment. I find her to be kind and responsive to any questions. I will make sure to recommend her to family and friends if they are wanting to see a psychiatrist.
She has been amazing to me and so helpful. She talks with me to see how everything is going. Very caring, sympathetic and empathetic.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
