List of Charles Toulson's Reviews
Dr Toulson did a left hip replacement for me August 31, 2021. It has never felt right. I was in so much pain that I could not do PT. I told him and his assistant and they never followed up. I had a doctor tell me that my hip was not aligned correctly. I was in the process of having him do a corrective surgery when my husband got ill and later died.
This is going to be a long review, but worth every second of your time to read. This man right here completely changed my life. Dr. Toulson will be the only surgeon I ever recommend to anyone, no matter what part of the world they are from. There’s lots of surgeons out there who can do knee replacements, but none that are as brilliant as Dr. Toulson. I’m 27 years old and every single doctor I went to here in Idaho refused knee replacement surgery for me because of my age. I had been suffering for years while trying to be a wife and take care of two small kids. I was using a walker, couldn’t stand for more than a few minutes at a time, was in bed 90% of each day, and couldn’t do much of anything by myself. I had so many doctors look me in the face and say “you need both knees replaced” and then tell me “sorry you’re too young” while I bawled to them in their office. I almost gave up on finding a doctor who would help me. Then I found Dr. Toulson and I had hope again. He was the first doctor who cared about the quality of my life and not just how old I was. He was the first doctor who made me feel heard and let me have a say in what I wanted my quality of life to be like. He did bilateral knee replacement surgery for me and did a brilliant job. I was walking without assistive devices by 7 days post op. I was also by that time in less pain than prior to surgery, and able to do things I hadn’t done in years. I’m now 4 weeks post op and am doing amazing. I have a life again. I can walk normally, go up and down stairs, play with my kids, clean my house, all the little things people take for granted every day. It still doesn’t feel real to me. I owe all of it to Dr. Toulson and will never be able to thank him enough or repay him for what he’s done for me and my family.
He did my mom’s knee replacement. More than a year later, she is still in pain. He also told her she needed a hip replacement. When she received a second and third opinion, neither believed she needed a hip replacement, and although they did not say it outright, they conveyed her knee was done incorrectly. Because of this, she needs a knee revision. Also, pain management in the hospital was not well done. She was overdosed in the hospital, based on what he said she could have, and needed narcan. His PA came and was sincere & apologetic. Actually, everyone was extremely worried, caring & apologetic, except Dr. Toulson. He wouldn’t have bothered to even come by to see her, except I asked him to. If all is good, he’s a (false) “great guy & doc.” If there are concerns or a challenge, his ego is bigger than the size of Texas. He’ll throw every hospital nurse, doctor, & anesthesiologist under the bus. But that’s not all, he has no problem throwing his PA and staff under the bus. Not good enough? Then he’ll blame you! Also, he isn’t professional enough to hold a conversation without interrupting you multiple times. How dare we say that there may have been a problem and he’s not perfect, right? I’ve never dealt with a doctor as rude, egotistical and unprofessional as Dr. Toulson. Basically, if you have enough trust in a perfect surgery, perfect pain management situation, and perfect recovery- he’s your guy. If you realize doctors are not saints, nor are they perfect, look elsewhere. Read the other low reviews. All are similar. Get a doctor who knows they are human, and capable of mistakes, but are genuine & caring enough not to brag how many surgeries they do a day. Maybe if he did less he wouldn’t screw up. There are doctors who will be professional enough to listen to you, without interruption and blaming everyone else, and willing to help you when there is a concern. You know, that whole “do no harm” oath.
Good job
1 yr post op and have had problems once the swelling started going down 3 months post op. Everything seemed OK as long as I didn't have complaints. Doc Ignored my complaints, contradicted his PA and PT he sent me to see then referred me to see someone else that just wanted to cover for him. Went to get my own medical opinion and basically stated he rushed during the procedure which is why 1 year post op my pain is worse than prior to having the replacement and my thigh is heavily disfigured. I regret allowing him to do this surgery and am paying for it everyday with the amount of pain I'm in.
Toulson made my replaced leg longer and made my life a living hell. He kept saying the difference was not significant. I finally went to my PCP and he ordered a scanogram. Then my NEW ortho ordered a standing x-ray. My leg is almost .7 inches longer. Please note that Toulson NEVER stated he had to lengthen my leg to add stability. He kept saying all looked fine in the xrays and, if anything, the new leg looked shorter. Incompetent is too nice a word to describe him. He botched the surgery and butchered my hip. Toulson also dismissed my pain and implied I was not allowing myself to heal and maybe needed an antidepressant. I've needed shots to my SI joint, piriformis, and lower back due to the amount of pain and inflammation this discrepancy continues to cause. I'm still in physical therapy 17 months post surgery. I've spent thousands of dollars and countless hours trying to find a way to be comfortable. Read the reviews in OTHER sites and look for leg length issues. Do NOT get your hip replaced by this "doctor" unless you want your life ruined. *There's no way to give a 0, though in reality, the review should be -5.

If you want to be in constant pain, have a hard time sitting, standing and walking, choose him. If you want a doctor who is not vested in your recovery, choose him. I was a healthy, slim, active 54 year old who needed a hip replacement due to OA. Toulson made my replaced leg longer and made my life a living hell. He kept saying the difference was not significant. I finally went to my PCP and he ordered a scanogram. Then my NEW ortho ordered a standing x-ray. My leg is almost .7 inches longer. Dr. Toulson and his team did an excellent job when I had anterior left hip replacement surgery in January. Dr. Toulson is a top orthopedic surgeon who cares deeply for his patients. I highly recommend him to anyone with chronic pain and in need of a surgical hip or knee procedure.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
