List of Joseph T. Kavanagh's Reviews
It has probably been four years since my had evaluation with Dr. Kavanaugh. At that time I was told I had cataracts and I was pushed into considering a high priced cataract surgery. I decided to go for a second opinion and it was interesting that the second opinion saw very little indication of any cataracts. Possibly a insignificant start of a cataract on one eye. It has certainly left me not knowing ...
I have had glaucoma for years. I have never had to pay to get my eyes dilated. My insurance has always covered it. This office is saying it’s not covered. Maybe it’s the way it was billed? I guess Medicare does not pay enough? Be careful and ask exactly what Medicare will pay for if you decide to go here.
Horrible customer service! Went in to see the doctor because I suspect a foreign object in my eye….the receptionist was so rude. Was more concerned about my insurance and deductible than actually providing care. I left - I’ll find a place that has a bit more concern for their patient’s well being! I would give a zero rating if it was possible :(
Preformed cataract surgery on Right eye. Knowledgeable, efficient, listens & answers questions! Professional yet friendly putting you at ease. Has a great staff backing him up. Am well pleased and would recommend Dr. Kavanagh to someone who is uncertain about the surgery.
My father in law recently had eye surgery through this clinic and we have yet to talk with the doctor. He's had complications and we need answers. We are just seen by assistance. We went today and asked if the doctor was going to be available and we're told he would be seeing him. The assistant checked his eyes and told us the doctor would be in shortly. We waited 1 1/2 hours and got up and walked out. We are very upset that after being billed thousands of dollars this is how he is treated with something as serious as his vision. We are now going to have to go to a specialist in Austin to get answers. Very unprofessional.
Dr was great when in office staff is great but most calls go to voicemail and don't get returned follow up is all on you and your persistence to get it done
I had cataract surgery on both eyes in 2019. I was told that my far vision would be good enough to pass the driver license eye test. After surgery I realized that I was seeing double at night. Traffic signals would have two red or green light where there was only one. Car head lights would be four instead of two. All other lights would be double. The moon was a moon and a half. I was so distraught. I then went back to on the the associate doctors at Eye Associates of South Texas in Sequin and she gave a prescription for glasses to correct the double vision. Before glasses the double vision was horizontal, with the glasses my double vision was now vertical. Didn't help at all and I could not see well enough to pass any eye test. Before, being near sighted, I was able to read, work on the computer and even thread a needle without glasses. Now I have to wear reading glasses. So what did I do. I went to another ophthalmologist in Boerne and he reviewed my case with his findings, gave me a prescription for glasses and said it should do the trick. Did it ever. No more double vision with these glasses. They are perfect. Why did I say all this. Never give up if one doctor doesn't fix your problem go elsewhere.
Dr Kavanagh is an excellent doctor and does really good work. But unfortunately when there are billing errors on their end, they do not correct them. Billing department is horrible, so thusly Dr Kavanagh is horrible. They are one and the same, so thusly they represent him. I have called them repeatedly to correct their error, and none given in return. No return phone calls, and such lack of integrity in taking care of patient needs until completion. They need to go work retail and learn how to take care of customers. They are a head ache, and I advise you to search elsewhere for a good medical care facility for your vision needs. I have had 2 billing errors on their end with them in my time as a patient, and both times it was handled in the same manner. So thusly I am finished with them.
Dr Kavanagh is an excellent doctor and does really really good work. His attention to detail and explaining things to you is awesome. I have been seeing him for quite a while now, and he has done surgery on my eyes and things went by the numbers. I trust him with all of my vision needs in regards to the health of my eyes with my Diabetes.
I feel very comfortable here. Everyone is helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. I know my vision needs are in great hands!

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
