A*Med Home Health's Online Review Report Card

I have had A-Med Home Health work with my parents 3 times in the past. We requested the same physical therapist each time and received excellent care. My father recently returned home from skilled nursing and required HH once again so I requested A-Med for the fourth time. I am very disappointed in the care this time around. The physical therapist came out to treat him twice and then I was informed that the main therapist needed to evaluate again because they had only been authorized 4 visits and the one visit that was to evaluate only was part of the 4 authorized. Makes no sense, there is a code to bill for evaluation and a code to bill for treating. Also, I was informed that a home health aide would come out twice a week for two weeks and then once a week for a total of 4 weeks. The aide came one day and later that week a different aide came out, (two visits only). Last week no one came out, no nurse, no aide, no physical therapist and no phone call. I called today to inquire and spoke with Juan (nurse) who stated that additional visits had not been authorized. When trying to explain that no one had call to inform us, he continued to interrupt to state the insurance companies are being stingy with visits. I work for an insurance company in their appeals department. I know that if something is not authorized then the provider and family have the right to appeal. I tried to explain this to Juan, that if we had been informed of the denial, then we could have appealed. He continued to interrupt the conversation, trying to cover their behinds. I canceled their services. I will never use this facility again. They have the responsibility to communicate with their patients and they failed. My father's weakness has worsened and the wounds he has on his heels (which the wound care nurse was suppose to be monitoring) have worsened as well! I previously had great respect for this company, but I don't know if it is under new management and/or have all new staff, but it has gone down hill. Very disappointed!

I have been working with A*Med for a few months and have been really impressed with their service. Shawn has been my main contact and every call, every text, every request he has gone above and beyond to help. He is very responsive and always responds within minutes to hours the same day. I would recommend them to work with, especially with senior care as they have been so helpful and patience with all my Medicare/Medicaid questions.
