John Kellum's Online Review Report Card

I used Dr. Kellum for my first pregnancy. Since it being my first I had no idea what to actually expect out of appointments. I never heard my babies heartbeat until she was 36 weeks along. Every time I brought up a concern I felt like he was judging me and thinking I was stupid. I am not a small person but I also am not too much over weight. The whole pregnancy I kept bringing up that I have not gained much weight. He told me that it was fine and some women don't gain a ton. I should have went to another provider after he didn't take that seriously. By the end of my pregnancy I only gained 5 lbs and that was all baby. When my family brought it up to him after delivery (which I delivered on a Sunday, thought he would be there) he said well she looked like she was small. There were no ultrasounds after 30 weeks and he never measured me to see how I was progressing. Due to my baby being so small for a day short of 40 weeks gestation she had to spend time in the NICU. I really think that if I had a better provider I wouldn't have had to put my baby through everything in NICU.

While the doctor himself is personable and kind, they literally never answer the phone. Even the appointment reminders are automated and it's hard to understand and annoying. In addition,When you walk in you have to stand at this glass window like a fish in an aquarium in front of the whole waiting area, and wait for 5-15 minutes for someone to open the glass door and confirm your appointment.

So, an update to my review. When I was in last August, I found the doctor and his nurse to be kind of rude, to be honest. They kept me waiting forever, and when they came in, the doctor asked me what he was doing today. I said, shouldn't you know what you're doing today? Then, he asked the nurse to go get my chart. Why didn't they have my chart when they came in? And, B. They didn't follow up to go over my blood test results. I've changed to another provider.

If I could give a zero I would !!! I'm so angry I could spit fire ! This is the second time I've take off work for a doctors visit to this office without being seen !! Last time they were out of supplies and couldn't preform the procedure..! This time I waited over a hour and was never even called back the office closed and I was still sitting there .. the unprofessional staff upfront never even said anything about the doctor running behind or anything they just left me sitting there ! The office closed at 5 at 5:25 I knocked on the front glass they ignored me .. I had to open the door and go around to even get someone to tell what was going on !!! At this point I've already paid .. when I demanded a refund of course the office manger is gone for the day !! So now I've paid for a procedure I never received!!  I'll never step foot in that place again!

First off they need to update the website and put new address on it. Then they need to tell people they don't ever answer the phones. Takes almost 2 days to get a return phone call. Plus they do everything through the "patient portal". So if you don't check it you have no idea what they have prescribed for you or if your test results had come back negative or positive. Since they never call or send out letters in the mail. Do lab tests on you that is not covered by your insurance and never tell you about that either. I went in for an annual check up and have had nothing but problems since!!!!!

Every time I've been here receptionist is not available and they don't answer phones during business hours causing me to come in and still not get serviced and totally waste my time. This is the fourth time my wife and i come without nothing getting done and that one time we do end up waiting  very long time because the doctor is not in the office. Not sure why they open at all if doctor needs to be there to administer everything and he is not.

After going to another OB and having a terrible experience, I was referred to Dr. Kellum by my PCP. He squeezed us in to a morning appointment the day after my PCP called him about my situation. Dr. Kellum and his amazing staff helped my husband and I understand our options and provided great comfort and care during such a sad experience. We didn't feel like cattle just getting pushed through the office. EVERYONE in that office took the time to talk to us, answer questions, and showed great compassion. I can't recommend him and his office staff enough. I'm very grateful for his patience and bedside manner which is hard to find. If you're looking for a doctor who is thorough, knowledgeable, patient, and understanding, you're looking for Dr. Kellum.

It took me a long time to find a doctor I love and that makes me feel comfortable. Dr. Kellum is amazing he has helped me to lose weight and get my energy and my LIfe back and I will forever be grateful that he took the time to talk to me about a plan to lose weight and what is going on with my body. Thank you so much for your professionalism and your staff. 5 Stars for sure!

I have been going here since 2011 and have had no problems. The staff and doctor are all kind and welcoming. The wait time is the typical wait time that I've had in plenty of other offices. They work with you as much as they can to help get you scheduled in at a time you want. If there are any emergencies, they are quick to see you. Very professional.

My experience with Dr Kellum was very positive. He is compassionate, caring and thorough.  On my first visit, at his Schertz location, he took time to talk to me and answer any questions I had.  I have to say that when I visited his San Antonio location, I waited over an hour to see him, but that may have been due to the last minute appointment that I made over test result concerns.  When I finally saw Dr Kellum, he took time to go over the results and address my concerns.  I do have to add that his staff, although pleasant, is not great on follow-up.  I had to call three times to make an inquiry regarding genetic testing, and actually haven't gotten a call back. That was months ago. I am considering leaving the practice because of this issue, which would be a shame, because I have been happy with the doctor's care.
