You will not find a worse DR will make you wait months for appointments they will cancel the day before and make you wait months for the next one. Zero bed side manner doesn’t ask questions or care about what you have going on or pain you are in. Just my experience with him. Hope yours is better

I wouldn’t be walking today if it had not been for Dr. Paul Detwiler! He performed emergency back surgery after a ruptured disc left me paralyzed from the waist down on the left side.

Dr Detwiler is a quack & should lose his license. He ruined my life! He paralyzed the right side of my body. It took a year & a half to regain partial function. He installed improper hardware in my cervical spine which makes me loose down all the time. I’m in horrible pain 24 hours a day & after several years it hasn’t improved at all.. This man is totally incompetent. He fills his surgery schedule so full that he rushes through surgeries and makes mistakes and ruins lives. NEVER use him!!!!!

Excellent surgeon. Super bedside manners. Explains the problems to his patients meticulously. Always smiles and happy. Never grumpy. Will refer him to any one. Very knowledgeable about his specialty.

4 surgeries on my sister one of which put her totally helpless. Seems there was a pinched nerve in the 3rd surgery hence the 4. Still had severe back pain. Another doctor has inserted a stimulator which has made her pain free. I need surgery but I will never do it after seeing my sister go through this over and over. What a quack!

I gave this doctor my son's life and he used his blessed hands to give our son back to us, God Bless You Paul!!! And thank you and Jesus!!!!!!

Dr. Detwiler performed brain surgery on me almost four years and kept me upright and walking at a time that I was justifiably terrified about ending up in a wheelchair. He was attentive and not afraid to admit it if he was wrong about any aspect of my care and recovery. He even made a point to come to my neurologist's appointment so that they could examine me and discuss my recovery( and did not charge me!) my symptoms and my continued care together. He performed back surgery on me in March 2019. Imaging, diagnosis and surgery were done within 24 hours. He's performed back surgery twice over the years for my 85 yr old mother-in-law. My husband is having back issues and Dr. Detwiler is the only man he trusts to care for him if surgery is necessary. Paul Detwiler isn't just a great surgeon, he's a great guy as well.

Dr. Detwiler was highly recommended by a very reliable source. I went with great confidence in him due to the recommendation. During one of my visits prior to surgery, Dr. Detwiler claimed that I’d never need surgery again for this problem. After the surgery was over and I was in recovery, the nurse told me that the doctor had an emergency meeting and will call me later that day to discuss the surgery. I was in extreme pain while in recovery. Same pain as I had before surgery but much much much worse. I awaited the call back from Dr. Detwiler, but he never called. I called his office and asked to speak to the Dr. and they just asked what was wrong, I told them and emphasized that I wanted to talk with the Dr. I called several times over the next few weeks with no avail. Then I was told that the Dr. would do nothing else for me and they referred me to a pain management Dr. He asked that I get an MRI done and it had to be done at the hospital because the place I had it done before didn’t produce good images. They were good enough for him to do surgery. I finally saw Dr. Detwiler at my 6 week check up. He claimed that his people NEVER told him that I wanted to talk to him; that’s is problematic. He looked at the MRI and told me that he needed to get a CT Myelogram which would be much clearer. I had that done and re-visited Dr. Detwiler. He told me that if my pain persisted I will need another surgery and that leg pain was easy to fix. If it was easy to fix, why didn’t he do it right the first time. I had a similar surgery done 5 years earlier in Dallas by Dr. Gill. I contacted Dr. Gills office and set up an appointment to see him. Surgery was immediately scheduled. I am now pain free 8 days after Dr. Gills surgery. If Dr. Detwiler is the best that Tyler has, then I caution anyone in having surgery done by ANY doctor in Tyler.

I had surgery done by Dr. D 15 yrs ago and have been fine. I trust him. Dr. D is to the point, he doesn’t play around. I just want to get well again, so I’m back seeing the best doctor.

I wish I could give 0 stars. This Dr was extremely unprofessional and had a serious god complex. He incorrectly diagnosed me and insisted it was all in my head or that I was just a hormonal women. He barely glanced at my scans and wouldn’t listen to anything I had to say. He finally agreed to a specific test but then he didn’t order it correctly so it was useless. The Drs office then refused to see me or return my calls and black balled me with other drs he was affiliated with. After becoming deathly ill I was able to be seen by a very compassionate and competent doctor that accurately diagnosed multiple serious genetic disorders. I guess I should be thankful that he didn’t push for any type of surgery knowing what I do now or I might have been left with serious long lasting complications. I am glad that he has been able to help other patients but I wish that he could humble himself and realize that he is not aware of every medical condition out there and not immediately discount someone’s symptoms.
