I was left feeling ridiculously patronized after speaking to Dr. Rich. I have a pet that requires extra attention and care. Although I don't doubt that Dr. Rich has experience and knowledge, I don't appreciate a veterinarian with a bad attitude or a condescending demeanor. If there was another exotic vet in the area I would never return to this clinic. I can only hope that Dr. Rich treats his animal patients better than he treats the people he interacts with. Sorely disappointed.
I didn't have much contact with the group due to it being during the Covid-19's period. I found an injured bird in a bush across the street from my house and I was able to pick him up and put him in my car and take him to Avian. They had a girl sitting out on the sidewalk with a table and chair and she was taking patients in like a triage set up. I called the next day and they said that the birds wing was broken and they had to put it to sleep. The bird with a Mississippi Kite and they tend to get caught in a gust of wind and slammed into things hence breaking Its wing. They didn't ask for any money however donations were accepted. I would highly recommend this Veternarian for birds, reptiles and any other exotic animal that is not your normal house pet ;although, I am sure they would see your pet in an emergency.
doctor Rich and his partner doc (Dr. Pence) are AMAZING at keeping my chinchillas checked up and even tried their hardest to keep two other "too late, too sick" animals; a chinchilla with kidney failure and a hamster whom he did a hysterectomy on(yes there is such a thing; she had a mass on her uteran horn).I just went today to get my chinchillas their annual check ups; went great; awesome cov19 precautions that work while not inconveniencing customers too bad.
They take good care of my pets... I don't know what I'd do without them since I don't think any other vets around here have special training in working with exotic pets.
Thanks A&EAH! I rescue an injured blue jay. I had no clue what to do. I call them and they took us in immediately. I offer to pay, however they said it was not necessary. I don't know what will happen with the poor little blue jay but he is in good caring hands. I can't be more grateful! So thanks!
My family adopted a lion head bunny and we were referred to this exotic animal vet. We got right in, it was easy to find and easy to park.Everyone was so nice, and we felt good about bringing our new family member here. The front desk signed us in and got us set up. The waiting room was comfortable with Nola flair and we saw several neat pets with their humans. Once in a room, our little guy was weighed and had an initial check. When the vet came in, he did a thorough check and was able to tell us the approximate age of buns and that he is a healthy hopper! They even trimmed and filed his nails during exam while answering all of our questions. We will definitely be bringing our baby back here for annuals and any other rabbit needs.
Wow! I am so grateful to have found this vet clinic. My hamster had been having sneezing fits, I called and made an appointment on a Saturday, they were able to see me on the following Monday! The Vet, Dr. Pence was incredibly kind, attentive, and gentle with my little fuzzy baby, and so was the vet tech. My hamster was prescribed a round of antibiotics. The entire visit only cost $60, $42 to see the vet and $18 for taxes and antibiotics. I am super grateful that I was able to be seen so soon, and didn't have to pay an arm and a leg to treat my hamster. I will definitely return here in the future for all of my small pet medical needs.
I cannot recommend them enough. Dr. Rich is fantastic. The prices are reasonable and the level of care they give goes above and beyond.
Dr. Rich, Dr. Pence, and their staff are all amazing! They are very knowledgeable and compassionate, and they clearly love what they do. I cannot recommend them enough for both emergencies and routine care. I have been a client for over 20 years, starting with pet rats when Dr. Rich was still on W. Esplanade. For every save and every heartbreak over the years, I have never doubted that they treated my babies the same as they would treat their own.
Yes, they get the job done. The wait, however, is so unreasonable that if you can bring your pet elsewhere, you definitely should. I have pet rats, so there isn't anywhere else I can go. Don't go in for your scheduled appointment and expect to be seen within the hour. I've been there a handful of times and each time there was a wait in the waiting room of about an hour and another 30-45 minutes in the back. The issues with my pets were handled so no complaints about that, but they really only spent maybe 5 minutes total with us. It seems like they schedule more appointments than they can handle in a reasonable amount of time. Also, even though Dr. Rich told us we could call if we had any questions, the desk assistants refused to let us speak to him so we had to make a whole new appointment to address our concerns. Very annoying.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
