Unprofessional, absolutely, NO patience, NO listening skills, Dr Nichols acts like he is a God with no room to ask questions 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
My husband and I have been a patient of Dr Nichols for over a yr. Dr Nichols is rude, condescending, and arrogant. Numerous and inexcusable mistakes are not unheard of. I needed to have lab work done before a scheduled surgery, the results weren’t ready in time, my surgeon had the hospital redo them prior to surgery. Two weeks after having surgery, I received a call from Dr Nichols office wanting to know if I had my surgery, I guess my lab results were finally in and they were to embarrassed to forward them so late to my Surgeon. Four months later I’m back having new lab work done that Dr Nichols requested, then a week later I’m back to go over the results. We’ll, I’m very interested in finding out if things have improved, especially since I had been taking medicine for 6 months that he had prescribed. You’ll never guess, the information/results weren’t what I was expecting because they had repeated the lab work that was to be done prior to my surgery. Needless to say, I wasn’t very happy and I strongly expressed it. I also stated that if I was actually sick I wouldn’t be there!!! Please take my warning and do yourself a favor, find another Dr. I know we are and others are too! If it was possible, I would have rated Dr Nichols NO Stars
I was born into a professional family MD's and Lawyers. I have assisted in over 50 surgeries and presided, as Judge, over med-mal jury trials. Dr. Nichols is anoutstanding
Dr Nichols seemed very disinterested about me. Had an abdormal mammogram and his office never contacted me. Requested my medical records and have not received them after 4 weeks!
I've been a patient for Dr Nichols for over 2 years due to recommendations from friends. I am very proactive with my healthcare and aggressively practice preventive medicine. I supply my own blood work 2-3 times a year and do annual physicals with Dr Nichols personally each year. I am in excellent health and have no issues. I take the lowest dose of Lipitor - 10mg. Despite being in great health, no issues and HAVING DISCUSSED THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE WITH NICHOLS and NICHOLS STATING TO ME - NO PROBLEMS - my refill for LIPITOR was REJECTED because his office insists on me coming in every 6 months for a "check-up" to refill my RX. Waste of my time, the doctor's time, other patients time and MY MONEY. Despite supplying blood work indicating my cholesterol and other metabolic parameters are in complete control. MUCH MORE INTERESTED IN MAKING MONEY vs working proactively with his patients on preventive healthcare. Switched to an internist that is much understanding and willing to work for the best interest of my health and not HIS POCKETBOOK.
Poor! I could not agree more with the review from the person who prescribed BP meds and then told him to come back in 6 months even though the BP meds were not working. His entire review is right on. At first you think he is a good Dr. then you find out what he is really like. I came in with a BP once at 215/104 (my BP never gets that high) and I attributed it to high Hgb/Hct (testosterone induced polycythemia) - this is one reason testosterone patients are having strokes and heart attacks). Dr. Nichols blew it off telling me I did not know that was for sure causing the problem. Of course I did not know for sure, but I was highly suspect for too many reasons to note here (all of which Dr. Nichols seemed to pay no attention to). A few days after this he called me asking me checking in on me to see if my heart blew up. Those were his words. It was at that time he told me he was using tough love on me when I came to his office on an emergency visit (I was scared from seeing my BP so high among other weird symptoms). I have to tell you folks, I am a good person. I don’t need tough love from anyone. That is in fact the last thing I need at my age, especially from a Dr. who I am paying and trusting has my best interests in mind. To be honest, it felt to me like his imagination got the best of him and he confused me with someone else. The tough love he is talking about was how he in a nutshell he was condescending towards me. Telling me things like he did not appreciate me being intolerant towards his staff and that I needed to relax. Told me my BP was high because I was stressed and I needed to calm down. I told him I was not stressed but I felt badly because of all these symptoms I was having I believed was from the elevated Hgb/Hct levels I had at the time. He insisted I was stressed and kept asking me to calm down. He even went as far as saying if I did not calm down he would ask me to leave. I asked him what I was stressed about. He said he did not know but that I needed to relax. Give me a break doc. I went to him because I had elevated BP of the likes I have never seen along with a host of other symptoms that turned out to be related to the elevated Hgb. To be clear, I was stressed because I was experiencing very high BP and too many other symptoms to mention here. My dad nearly died of a heart attack when he was my age and required a double coronary bypass so I have a long family history of heart disease and this is all in Dr Nichols charts. After coming of the T for three months my Hgb went back to normal so there you go – I had testosterone induced polycythemia. And all the other symptoms including the “very” high blood pressure I had all went away, never to come back. Had I not taken action into my own hands I could be dead now and good chance no one would have known why. Also, there was another incident where my Calcium was high. Dr Nichols could not figure out why. Had no idea. Assumed it was because of supplements I was taking even though the supplements had less than the FDA levels daily Calcium. Fast forward 5 years, another Dr noticed my Calcium was high and checked my PTH levels. Turned out I had hyperparathyroidism. What I later learned is when the Calcium levels are high end of normal or above normal Dr’s are supposed to rule out hyperparathyroidism – see www.aparathyroid.com This Dr did not run that test and I lived with this problem for 5 more years before I got a diagnosis. The only treatment is surgery.
POOR! I will find another doctor. Dr. Nichols prescribed a med for me to lower my BP which was consistently in the high 130/90s range. I monitored my own BP for several weeks to find no change in BP readings while on the meds. I called the office and left a detailed message with his PA but no reply. Also after he prescribed the med he said that he wanted to see me in 6 months. Is that normal practice to prescribe something as critical as BP medication and not schedule a follow-up in a couple of weeks or so? As others have suggested the first couple of visits seem to go well but something changes after that and one notices a certain irritation that Dr. Nichols displays to your questions and experiences with your health. He seems so close to being a good doctor but staff, wait times and his own reaction to patients take his whole practice to poor. Thus my rating.
As others have mentioned here the arrogance runs rampant in this office. On my first visit I saw a PA who didn't seem too interested in my condition. Except for the receptionist I was just treated like a piece of meat that was being pushed through their factory without the least bit of courtesy. The PA was more concerned with the supplements from another doctor that why I came to the office. He was even bold enough to give me an ultimatum - I either see him or the other doctor. I should not see both. He just wanted to be argumentative and even contradicted what the Emergency Doctor told me. Then he tried to impress me by saying the drug I just got was making my BP (the condescending jerk put the B P down paper to explain what it meant) look better. He had no BP readings before I took that drug so how in the world could he tell that. I was very disappointed and feel sorry for others if they are treated like that. Doctors and PAs should be treating people with compassion and not like a bunch of robots. But I guess they spent there 15 minutes with a patient so Medicare will pay them. I strongly suggest looking for another Doctor's office.
Dr. James Nichols was insulting to me on a few occasions in his office. He gave a wrong diagnosis to my husband, who now has a lifelong condition and has to take medicine (Fluconazole) for life for his Valley Fever (Cocci Meningitis). He convinced me out of taking my husband to the ER when I called him after hours. Dr. Nichols was rude to me because he wouldn't listen to what I had to say, as I was very worried about my husband. He didn't want me questioning him at all. He was convinced that my husband had whooping cough. At one point, he placed him on Prednisone, which a pharmacist was even questioning. My husband was never tested for Valley Fever. He never had whooping cough; he had walking pneumonia, which was all a part of valley fever. I hope all doctors in Arizona will test their patients for valley fever to rule this out. If valley fever is caught in time, then it can be cured. Valley fever is what doctors should rule out in Arizona, as it is very prevalent here.
PLEASE do yourself a favor and look for a different Doctor. Most of these comments mention that Dr Nichols does not listen and I agree 100%. I've visited his office approx. 5 times. He is usually typing on his phone while I'm speaking with him. And he will often answer with something completely different than what I asked. On two occations his diagnosis was completely wrong. While his staff is generally friendly, the professionalism is laking. I was told to hurry up with a urine sample because the nurse was ready to go on a break. When I returned, less than 5 mins later, she was gone. So Im standing outside the door with a cup asking anyone I could find, what I needed to to with it. On a seperate occation after giving a urine sample the nurse came back to the room and asked if I could give another because someone discarded it. The last time I called the receptionist asnwered the phone "front desk". And leaving a message will almost never result in a returned phone call.
