We had Dr Jacobs for our 11 week appointment. It was our first appointment and we were very nervous, with this being our first baby. Dr Jacobs was great and answered all our questions and concerns.

Knows all the pertinent information, though he may not share all the relevant points. Has lots of experience and is used to offering his go-to solution. He violated Respect for Autonomy, one of the 4 principles of biomedical ethics, on two occasions. An essential part of "Respect for Autonomy" which we give our patients, is informed consent. Informed consent (including risks and all alternatives were not presented), rather the narrow view of the Doc was asserted.

I have never scheduled an apt with Dr Jacobs but I’ve had two experiences with him as the on call OB, the first experience I was sent to L&D after a NST and before my scheduled drs visit. I was told by Valley that Dr Jacobs would come and see me at the hospital. I had recently received a cholestasis diagnosis and had a list of questions for that appointment. I had to ask the nurses multiple times for him to come and talk to me. I asked specifically about my bile acids which he told me had improved and were “not high enough to be concerned, I’d just be delivering at 37 weeks” The next day a received a call from valley to give me my bile acid results, he told me my bile acids were a 2, they where a 19 which was a steep increase from the week before. It was very frustrating. The 2nd occurrence is when he was on call the night of my induction. I was scheduled to start cytotech that evening and pitocin in the morning. He had the nurse call me and tell me I didn’t need to come in for that as it was my fourth baby. I had discussed this with five providers at Valley and all agreed that my history warranted a need for cytotech but he inserted his opinion without reading my chart which seems to be a common occurrence with Dr Jacobs.
