List of J. Jared Speakman's Reviews
Dr. Speakman was pleasant and helpful in explaining my condition how surgery could resolve the problem and in explaining risks. I felt comfortable and confident with his expertise. During my postop visit he took his time to review my status and explain how the healing was progressing. Hope I dont need future surgeries of any kind but Ill certainly go to Dr. Speakman if I do.
I had a gastric sleeve by Dr. Speakman in Jan 2018. I had severe nausea vomiting that was on going beyond what might be somewhat normal after surgery. I attempted w each follow up to discuss my concerns. He was dismissive and insisted I wasn’t keeping to the diet plan as directed this was true however it was because I wasn’t able to keep any food down. In my one year follow up last week I again brought it up. I’d had two ER visits in one weekend followed by an Instacare visit. I harassed the GI until he did a scope. Inflammation in my upper esophagus and spots in my stomach. Medication didn’t help. Dr. Speakman stated his exact words I can’t be that sick because I was still alive. I just got the results of my swallow study. 1. Esophageal Dysmotility 2. Small slidingtype hiatal hernia 3. Marked gastric reflux 4. Small Duodenal Diverticulum. Now THAT doesn’t sound like nothing to me.
When I was a patient in the hospital my first nurse said I would trust my life to Dr. Speakman but I dont want to tell him because I dont want his head to swell too much. I hope Dr. Speakmans head does swell he is honest straightforward and technically a fantastic surgeon. I know because I am a surgeon.
I developed abdominal pain in Las Vegas and knew I was in trouble. I went to the hospital in St George where I became a patient of Dr. Speakman. My infection required surgery and I was expecting to have a colostomy. Dr. Speakmans innovative ideas resulted in anastomosing my colon in the presence of abscess and uncleansed bowel. First Dr. Speakman is aware of current trends and ideas. Second technically he is a fantastic surgeon. Third I am a live and well. Thank you Dr. Speakman for fulfilling every expectation I could have in a fellow surgeon.
I attended my mothers consultation with her last week regarding her surgery for melanoma on her right arm. When asked about returning to work he said she’d need a few days but if he had to remove lymph nodes she’d need light duty due to the nature of her job that requires repeated heavy lifting. Her surgery was yesterday he removed a group of lymph nodes and refused to write her a note requiring light duty. She isn’t scheduled to get her stitches out for 23 weeks. It is of zero consequence to him if he writes a light duty condition for her. It just takes a few moments of his time to ensure that his patient has appropriate aftercare instructions and that includes associated documentation needed for their employers if it is needed. I wasnt there with her to press him in person on the issue and it is too early to call the office but I will be in a few hours. She can rip her stitches out if she has to return to lifting up to 70lb bags on a repeated basis so soon after surgery.
I had surgery for a hiatal hernia. And also a gtube installed my condition was very serious so much so Dr Speakman had to stop the first surgery attempt and within three more days he was able to proceed and complete the surgery I will share with you that because my disability and situation he said my surgery was one of the most challenging and complex he has ever done And thank God Im alive and recovering now
Very professional and knowledgeable
From all Ive heard and my own experience with him Dr. Speakman is an excellent surgeon but not so good at listening and talking to patients.
Yes he is arrogant dismissive of what the patient has to say etc. I also spent my career as an RN. Ive seen the best and the worst. Dr. Speakman is neither but certainly not the best. He took no notes about important things we discussed then forgot them resulting in mistakes that severely hurt my recovery. Then laughed it off saying if he took notes hed just forget his notes. Ha ha. Even if you want an arrogant comic for a surgeon Id not recommend him hes not that funny.
Dr Speakman did a hernia repair in Dec 2009 and 7.5 yrs later there have been no complications at all. Hes an excellent surgeon.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
