First off, I must sadly say Dr. Bushnell, MD, Psychiatry Specialist, at The University of Utah, has retired. And, though tragic, he certainly deserves it after decades of research, dedication and genuine care for so many individual patients. I waded through heavy, dark water as a young teenager from disappointing and fundamentally useless Dr. to Dr. for 15 years before I finally met him. And, he made an actual, more than slightly detectable, difference in my life. I had the ability to Try again. He was professional, an expert that thought outside of the box, thorough, yet still kind and careful with his patients. He was just very personable and seemed openly affected by my pain and frustration, despite his status and clinical responsibilities, and what you normally come across with in psychiatrists in general. There will never be another like him. But, I'm still hopeful and pray that I'm wrong, not only for myself, but for so many others in dire need of more than your average, by the book, psychiatrist. They will have some Big shoes to fill. Rest well in Retirement Dr. Bushnell ⛱💓
Several years ago, I accompanied my adult daughter to see Dr. Bushnell, and she completed the ECT procedure series in the hope of defeating her depression. Dr. Bushnell, and his team, Stacie Turnbridge and the rest, were wonderful, and now, years later, my daughter is a happy, healthy, strong independent woman…free of depression, medication, and a toxic ex-husband. Dr. Lowry literally saved her life.
Dr. Bushnell and his team saved my life. He is someone that will stand out in my life forever
I had seen two psychiatrists, was misdiagnosed, on the wrong meds, and ended up at the University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute for inpatient care, including ECT. Thank goodness! Dr. Bushnell accurately diagnosed me, coordinated with my local psychiatrist (that he recommended) and I've been able to live a normal life since then. I've been on maintenance ECT and meds for the last 17 years, and I'm eternally grateful for the care of Dr. Bushnell and the other doctors and nurses there. Of course, this might not be right for you, but Dr. Bushnell wouldn't prescribe this for you unless it is necessary in your case.
One of the finest doctors we've dealt with. He is the reason our daughter is doing so well after an eight year battle with postpartum depression.
Dr. Bushnell is the most caring doctor I have ever met. He is also the most knowledgeable. He understands medications and the chemistry of the brain like no one else. He can cure difficult cases of depression after everyone else has given up hope or does not know what to do next.
Dr. Bushnell is an amazing and gifted Dr. he goes above the call of duty every time. He cares tremendously about what he does and his patients. He is very straight forward and honest. I am very grateful to have found the blessing of this Dr.
I have suffered from severe clinical depression for over 20 years and the medication prescribed either didn't work or the side effects were so bad I couldn't tolerate it. Dr. Bushnell is extremely knowledgeable about the latest treatments and medications. I found him to be kind and compassionate and willing to really listen to what I was saying. We eventually found a combination of medications that has worked. I can honestly say that I would not be alive today if it had not been for Dr. Bushnell and the care I received from him.
I have seen a multiple of doctors in my life and Dr. B. is the best. He is most qualified in knowledge of medications and ability to come up with just the right combination. He is most caring and does listen and involve the patient in his care.He is very up to date aware of new treatment regimes. He is A one in my book.
Dr. Bushnell has cared for my wife for more than 20 years. She had to have ECT back when it was done inpatient. My daughter also is having it right now on an out patient basis. She has had 3 of 8 treatments. This professional has a huge practice, is loved by his patients and is the best doctor I have ever had a family member go to. The kind of depression my family members deal with is not "the blues" it is Major Clinical Depression that can be treated but not cured. It is very tough on the patients that have to deal with this and usually includes "panic attacks" which are also a terrible thing for them.

All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
