After 34 days in the hospital because of a medical mistake this doctor made see someone else. 23 years later still having problems and he tell me I'm mentally ill. 34 days he made me that way. He didn't have any classes in bedside manner, caring, empathy or kindness. He preaches fat is disgusting. It's amazing how fat he became in 23 years. He doesn't care how you look after he's done carving on you. You'll never wear a bikini anyway. Everything is the patiens fault never his. To bad all of us that have been wronged can't sue together. Take all his retirement money. Own him for the rest of his life.
I would give zero if o could. I have had so many complications. 6 years post op. I had a perforated bowel that he said had nothing to do with my bypass. All of my research has proven otherwise. That wasn’t done correctly. I went down to 80lbs within less than a month, went to ER, called his office several times during that time. I was told to be patient. I saw my Regular Dr. and he plead with me to use another ER. I was admitted and after scans I was septic and the perforation wasn’t fixed. 10 years later I am going for my 4th surgery. It’s high time he retired
Dr. Simper performed my Gastric Bypass on March 4, 2022. My diabetes is now in remission, and I have been taken off of 5 prescription medications. I am down 70 pounds in 7 months. He definitely helped to change my life for the better! He is very knowledgeable, and answered all of my questions completely. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for weight loss surgery!
Dr. Simper's negligence and ego caused the death of my mother. She went to him for reconstructive work on a previous surgery she had done. Dr. Simper promised her that he would not continue with his surgery if, once he got in there, he discovered the damage previously done was too profound. He did not keep that promise. Instead he continued to operate even after knowing it was extremely risky and negligent to do so, causing even more internal damage to my mother. Dr. Simper even performed a second surgery, without my mother's consent, on an alleged hernia that he "discovered" while in the OR. After my mom woke up from surgery, we asked her if she knew Dr. Simper was going to also operate on a hernia and she was shocked to hear this news. Less than 24 hours after surgery my mother suffered multiple complications (sepsis, fluid buildup in the lungs, etc.) which left her barely clinging onto life in the ICU. My mom spent three months in the ICU battling complication after complication, additional surgeries and procedures before finally passing away. I attempted to file a wrongful death/medical malpractice lawsuit against Dr. Simper. However, the law firm (G Eric Nielson & Associates) declined to proceed because the state of UT puts a cap on the amount of financial recovery in these types of cases. So basically, because they weren't going to make enough money on the case, they decided not to pursue it. I also know for a fact that, five months after my mom passed away, another one of Dr. Simper's patients died after having surgery performed by him. DO NOT GO TO DR SIMPER!!! He is not competent or qualified to be operating on patients.
Had Gastric bypass performed by Dr. Simper, didn’t see him much before surgery but figured I was in good hands since he was the most experienced. He brags about all of his papers he’s got published. But this doctor has NO bed side manners, NO empathy, and doesn’t know how to take responsibility for his actions!! I was in the ER 24 days after surgery because I couldn’t keep any food down. I was in the ER for 4 days waiting to get a scope done to see what was going on. Dr Simper lied to me and then yelled at me tell me he never said that and had horrible communication about the whole situation. I’ve never seen a doctor with zero sympathy and yell at a patient over the phone. Remind you I was still in the ER and hadn’t ate, had horrible experiences getting IV in. He was pushing fluids in me at 250! Every nurse that saw that told me they don’t usually go above 100. When I told Dr Simper my veins can’t handle that and that my arm was bubbling up because it collapsed my vein all he could say was “well we have to get the fluids in you some how” Like seriously!? Thank God my nurses were looking out for me and stopped pushing them so fast. I had 2 veins collapse and the 3rd one finally stayed because we weren’t trying to push so much! He just follows the same thing and doesn’t try to understand everyone is different. After my scope was done and he reported to my husband my husband told him that he heard him talking to me and that it was very unprofessional and all he could say was “I didn’t promise anything” he never came to check on me after the scope and let me know what he found or what my next steps will be. I will just finish with is don’t go with Dr Simper if anything goes wrong he won’t be there to have any sympathy and can’t own up to anything he’s way too prideful.
This man almost killed my dad. My father went in for a back surgery. Simper accidentally cut a vein in his back and did not fix it appropriately. I get that accidents happen but he did not take the appropriate steps to repair him. My dad was in excruciating pain for a whole day with signs of internal bleeding and Simper neglectfully refused to check on him or provide additional care. My father bled out internally, collapsed into my mother's arms, and nearly died. Save yourself and your family by finding a different surgeon.
Do not hesitate to go to this skilled, understanding doctor. He listens to what you have to say with patients and caring
EXTREMELY knowledgeable.. He is one of the best surgeons in UTAH. During surgery in 2004 an unexpected life threatening problem was found and he was he was able to take care of it. A few more hours of surgery, but it saved my life. I am about to have more surgery for a different matter. My Gastroenterologist recommended 2 docs in Utah that he thought were skilled enough to do this procedure..I chose my doc and come to find out, he is an expert in my current medical situation. He's The Best!
Catastrophic errors, breaking patient confidentiality. You have chosen the right DR. These are a few things you will hear from others that have or experienced as well. Go to the ER that's the only way to see me, Your fine take a Tylenol, drink more protein .Not to mention his favorite doctor's that he prefer only to assist W/H. So you may be waiting many days. Confidentiality show me my history scans etc.; But to compare my history to another patients information in excusable !!
Best Dr. Ever!! I had the best experience, I'm 13 yrs out and holding at 145lbs

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
