Stefano F. Agolini's Online Review Report Card

Dr Agolini is good in the sense that his bedside manner is fine and he's fairly thorough. What is just awful is his business operations: specifically the length of time it takes to be seen from when your appointment is supposed to start and minor little things like getting an employer form for a standing desk attachment signed. For my first appointment with him, I waited an hour past my appointment time. For my second appointment, which was via telephone, I waited nearly a half hour past. I called back twice while I waited and on the second call, I told the receptionist that this was really unprofessional and it is unreasonable to expect a patient to be waiting indefinitely in the middle of a work day. The receptionist really didn't have much to say other than she'd let him know my concerns. Fast forward a few weeks and I decide to send a form from my employer for requesting a standing desk attachment. Mind you the form is extremely simple and short--the office replied by telling me he doesn't think he is the right doctor to fill this form out and suggests a PCP. I replied telling them he's the only doctor I had seen about this in the past decade and that I don't have a PCP, but they didn't bother to respond. I followed up and re-explained how it made no sense for me to go find a new doctor who would know less about my condition than he did just to get a simple form filled out for a standing desk attachment. The office said they'd speak to him again but reiterated that he said he wouldn't be the right person. Later in the day, I realized I had made a mistake and did see a plastic surgeon that he referred me to about my condition, so I called their office and would you believe it? No hassle whatsoever! They said it "wouldn't be a problem at all". Unbelievable the difference between a well-run practice and a poorly run practice.

I had an umbilical hernia and was recommended to the Dr. Agolini's practice, and I could not be more thankful.  To begin, the best "bedside manner" I have ever experienced (I am 50 yrs old).  He knew I was a little worried (I mean hey, it's surgery!), but he made sure I understood the process (from surgery to post-surgical healing).  He made sure I understood all and made sure all of my questions (and I had "tons") were answered.  I appreciated that he spoke to me not as a doctor (language) or a number... but as a patient.  I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Agolini to anyone.  His practice is run by professionals, I am very glad to have met and had my procedure with Dr. Agolini.

I was referred to the Dr. Angolini. When I called to make my appt they asked for my insurance. At check in I provided them my insurance. At the end of the appt he says “there’s one last small thing... You’re out of network but it’s no problem because I normally don’t charge extra beyond what insurance covers.” I decided NOT to have surgery out of network, and today received a bill for $200, for my 15 min appointment. Why didn’t they tell me earlier on that I was out of network? SHADY.

We are so happy to have been referred to Dr. Agolini for my husband’s bilateral hernia surgery! He spent so much time duscussing his thought process regarding my husband’s unique situation, and how to proceed. He came to the waiting room after surgery and sat with me until he was sure that all of my questions and concerns were addressed, and called us later that night to see how we were doing. I can’t say enough about his caring, competent, and informative way.

Professional, caring, superbly competent. There cannot be a better surgeon to care for one!!!

I chose Dr. Agolini based on reviews & the fact that he is listed as a top doc in Washingtonian magazine. Got an appointment quickly but office wait time was substantial. No matter, his staff was friendly & helpful and he has a great bedside manner: comes off as very knowledgeable/concerned. I scheduled hernia surgery & it went off without a hitch. I felt good about the experience, but it was a boost to me that before surgery the hospital staff praised Dr. Agolini & told me I was in good hands.

I had emergency laparoscopic surgery at Alexandria Hosp and didn't have time to research and choose my doctor, but by the luck of the draw I got Dr. Agolini as my surgeon. I couldn't  have been more pleased with him. His bedside manor is tops, has a great sense of humor too. He spoke to me before the surgery, introduced himself, gave me a little background, and was completely open to all my questions. He didn't walk away until he knew I was satisfied.Did the same thing after the surgery and the post-op follow-up appt. My recovery was text book, you'd never know I even had surgery as the scars are no longer visible. If I ever need surgery again, I wouldn't think of going to anyone else

Dr. Agolini is a hero in our household. He is not only a wonderful surgeon but a truly great person. He takes the time to get to know you, spends lots of time with you and makes careful, well-thought-out decisions. I cannot recommend him enough!

Dr. Agolini is a one-of-a-kind doctor. He is an amazing surgeon and wonderful person! I greatly appreciated the time he spent with me, presenting me with all options, risks and benefits. His bedside manner is the absolute best, and he assembled the best surgical team to operate on me. I cannot say enough good things about him but if you are looking for a wonderful surgeon who will treat you like an individual person and not a number, you can't go wrong with Dr. Agolini. I and my family are deeply grateful that I met him in the hospital when I was admitted in an emergency situation. He wasn't afraid to disagree with other doctors and explain his thinking to me, which was more conservative and well-thought out from a long-range perspective. I was so grateful and knew he was the surgeon for me if I ever needed surgery. When I did end up needing surgery, I knew exactly who I would use and am SO happy I used him. I am in great shape now because of him.
