Discovery Mood And Anxiety Program- Annandale's Online Review Report Card

My experience with this center has been unlike anything I have ever experienced. The members of staff that I met in my child's duration there were quite good as well as the therapist assigned to my child, however, management is quite lacking and safety protocols are not properly followed to the extent of the written policies. There is also poor communication. I called my child several times and did not receive a call back because my child was never told that I called. After an event of one evening in which I received a distressing call from my child, I spoke with management about my concerns in regard to safety. Later that day, through email, I learned that my child was being dismissed from the program quite randomly as no communication was given to the staff or my child about it. Parents, as a nurse and a parent, I highly recommend that you do your due diligence when locating a treatment facility for your child. This particular facility is not a therapeutic setting by any means and may cause further unnecessary distress to your child.

The good- communication everyday with our child, she learned HOW to communicate through therapy and how to use healthy coping skills to take with her after treatment, she built relationships with the other patients and they supported each other, and last the staff were polite and helpful, shout out to Mariann, Kim, Maggie, Gina, and Autumn for making all the difference in her stay there. The bad- not enough time allotted for high school students that need to stay on track.

Wow, where to begin? Communication is nonexistent. I just went 10 days without contact from my son. They claimed they dialed for him to call me "every day" during that time. But guess what, cell phones have call logs. No call from their number or ANY unknown number came in. My phone shows they called only one time that whole period, and I happened to not be able to reach my phone in time. There is no option to call back. They also let him go all two weeks of Christmas break without doing any of his schoolwork he was supposed to be making up (he is an honor student who was failing nearly all classes due to missing work). They did not update me at all during that time, and routinely failed to communicate with my son's teacher throughout November and December, not even to answer their emails. Sure, this facility is inside a beautiful mansion. The food is great and they enjoy their activities. It's been like camp for my son, but much more luxurious. He is happier, namely I believe because he got to go off and have fun with people his age. My relationship with him is worse than beforehand, thanks to prolonged periods of silence. He is further behind in school than when he arrived, thanks to nonexistent support for his academics. My son's renowned high school has only negative things to say about their interactions (or lack thereof) with Center for Discovery in Annandale. My son is still there now and I have been trying for three days to speak with the phantom known as Lynn (I don't think she really exists). You can leave voicemails for Lynn, or send emails to an address purporting to be hers, but you will not hear her voice ever. I think she is fictional. But she is the "head" of the program. Find somewhere else for your child.

WARNING!!! WARNING!!!! WARNING!!!! Please do not send your child here. Our child needed help and they accepted her, but then because they didn’t read the notes from the doctors they try to blame it on the parents. Then they just kicked her out of the program. No referrals, no help with finding another program. This is why our children that need mental health programs are failing and families are being left to find help.

They have been wonderful in the treatment of my child. They have helped them in multiple ways and the staff was amazing.

i hate this place so much. repeatedly told them i was suicidal when i was there and they did absolutely nothing. staff are rude and we only left the house once a week except for to go on walks once a week which we had to beg for. this place gave me trauma. pls, pls do not send your child here. it doesn't help.
