List of Donald M Poretz's Reviews
Been a patient or Dr Poretz for 8 years. He has always been super professional, knowledgeable compassionate and accessible to me. He has helped me with all my medical care and given me great advice. If you are looking for an infectious disease doctor look no more.
Dr Poretz was completely condescending and obnoxious during my entire visit. He was clearly annoyed that I was taking up his valuable time, all while wasting most of my appointment asking irrelevant questions. He asked several times, "Why are you here? Where did you get my name? Why do I have your medical records?" Every time I mentioned the name of one of my doctors he would comment dismissively, "I don't know him." This is a doctor with no bedside manner, in fact no manners at all. If you expect to be treated with respect and feel well cared for, you should go elsewhere.
I did not have a serious condition and Dr. Paretz was patient, listened, knowledgeable, spent time explaining options, was very professional and pleasant. Highly Recommend.
In my 75 years, I have never encountered a doctor as condescending and belittling as this 80 year old man. He was outraged that I scheduled an appointment with him concerning a medical condition my primary care doctor had treated but was beyond his area of expertise. (I made the appointment through my INOVA portal, which provides the means to do so. My insurance does not require a referral). After his outrage, he proceeded to talk to me like I was 8 years old. Even though my primary had prescribed the wrong treatment, Dr. Poretz provided no recommendations, although the medical condition is one of his supposed areas of expertise. I would suggest seeing someone else in this practice.
My primary care physician recommended Infectious Diseases Physicians Group to treat my osteomyelitis condition. How fortunate I was to be under Dr. David Portez care; extremely knowledgeable, easily understood and patient to listen to my stories/issues. Equally important in my view was the nursing staff, specifically Nurse Sara Moses, the well run and very supportive office staff and the treatment from the other clinicians. Dr. Portez operates a well run ship. His crew will make you well again.
Took my 90+ year old mother who has had sepsis and many UTIs in the past couple of years. Lots of antibiotics, both oral and injection but infection continues to reoccur. Hie had poor listening skills, interrupted constantly and was very condescending. He suggested she get over the counter medication to treat the burning. REALLY? And, gave the advice that we should be aware UTIs can move into sepsis very quickly. We could not be more dissatisfied!
This is the least compassionate doctor I have ever seen. He does nothing to try to empathize with a patient who is frustrated and in pain. He talked down to me the entire time and even acknowledged that he may be coming across that way. Even after I confronted him about his tone, he did not fix his attitude and continued to patronize me for the rest of my appointment. If his goal was to make me feel as badly as possible, then this appointment was 10/10 a success.
When you are in your 76th year and not fully up-to-speed on modern medicine it's time to hang things up. Everyone has to retire. The best thing a doctor can do for his or her patients is serve his or her time. Staying on too long shows up eventually and it's not right to make others pay in the mean time. It was a total waste of time and this "doctor" made it sound like I was wasting his time. I've been to doctors from Seattle to New York and never come across one like this. Absolutely TERRIBLE!!!!
I found Dr Poretz to be exception. Great bedside manner. Explained everything and very much wanted me to understand the choices and implications of decisions. He made it feel like a collaboration. Also, I rarely had to wait and if so, not for long. I am not a medical doctor, but he appeared to be right on top of things as I was able confirm elements subsequently with other doctors over time.
Dr. Poeretz is very attentive and clearly an expert in his field. Their practice came highly recommended from someone who had a Kidney transplant that felt that they saved his life when other Doctor's failed. My only issue is the office environment which appears unclean in the waiting area, not something you want to see in a place where people are coming with infections.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
