Robert L Bloom's Online Review Report Card

I went to Dr Bloom for several years. He diagnosed active sarcoidosis in lungs, bones and perotid. Fo some reason he said my breath shortness was asthma and that I was physically " out of shape". He has pages of notes that I have an allergy to corticosteroids which caused my bone marrow to harden. He insisted on having me take a steroid al inhaler, which I did not even fill the Rx. I also went for 3 years without a PFC test. I was woefully out of breath and could not walk 20 feet. He insisted that the problem was asthma and wrote another Rx for the steroid inhaler. I was almost in tears because he laughed at me when I reminded him of the allergy. I got home & immediately found Dr. Hales, agodsend... He ordered a bunch of tests and images. Dr Hales diagnosed interstitial lung disease and very active sarcoidosis in my lungs & bronchial tubers. I am so grateful to have a wonderful pulmonologist now. Dr Bloom is arrogant, condescending, and incompetent.

Starting with Dr Blooms staff...not very sharp! They texted me to fill out forms. They didn't say who they were or give a link to fill out the forms. Today I went because I have emphysema and I have trouble breathing. When i got there i was told 3 times I had to wear a mask. I struggle to breath without a mask. Breathing would be impossible with a mask. I kept saying I was there because I have emphysema. They left me alone in a room returning to tell me he would not see me without a mask to leave!! I was kicked out of Blooms office! Don't waste your time

He tried to prescribe medication and diagnoses outside of his area of expertise. This is incredibly dangerous and he refused to let me speak/got visibly angry when I told him that this was being handled by a specialist in that area (the issue was in no way lung related) and the medication he was asking would have had severe medical complications. If you are thinking of going there, please don’t!

The bad (front desk): the office phones are rarely answered. I called in the morning around 10:15 for over an hour using multiple phones - the phone was never answered. You always have to leave a message and they'll call you back within 2 days. That's a huge issue when you need prompt assistance bc you're running into problems with getting the required blood work done bc you're scheduled for surgery the next day. The GOOD (Dr. Bloom): My son was very sick (in addition to having other medical conditions) and we needed a pulmonologist. Dr. Bloom has been and continues to be simply fantastic! He called me from his personal cell to give me urgently needed info and ensured we had the necessary medication to help get my son better. When I ran into a problem he quickly responded to a text message that I had sent him which - after 40 yrs of dealing with various physicians who have cared for my son - is highly unusual. Yes the office is very busy and I often have to leave a message for a return call. But, the quality of care that my son received and continues to receive is superb.

Rude. Dismissive. Needs to retire. Wouldn't listen to me.Other doctors in group are good.

If I could give Robert zero stars, I would. This man is a prime example of someone who went into medicine for the wrong reasons. First of all, he was late to the appointment by 30 minutes and didn't even apologize, however that would have been fine had he not been absolutely horrible. He made multiple major assumptions about me, completely dismissed the fact that I had a family member die from an asthma attack when I brought it up, not to mention it was clear he was rushing and was eager to dismiss anything I had to say, so I just started saying 'thank you' over and over again to get out of there ASAP. This man has the most AWFUL God complex, save your time and yourself by seeing literally anyone else but this sorry excuse for a doctor.

He is a poor listener, questionable competence, and DISMISSIVE. I had a strange breathing/wheezing problem about 3 years ago. He gave a few tests diagnoses and I had follow-up visits with him. He is a very poor listener and dismissive. None of his prescribed medication worked and he could not determine the cause of my problem and managed my severe symptoms. With my last visit (~1 year ago), I feel like he just wants me to go away. Totally disregard and don't care about my ongoing symptoms. He says my conditions are allergy and/or acid reflux-related and ANXIETY. I DO NOT HAVE ANXIETY as I am recently happily retired. I pulled my med records and I went to Dr. Tyroler who is not even a Pulmonary specialist, but he treated my condition and have it under control now. There are better people and doctors out there who can help you. I hope this helps people who are looking for doctors.

He's a very busy doctor. Kind and professional

I have had Dr. Bloom for many years, I am very confident about what he tells me he is very knowledgeable, he listens to everything I say and never dismisses me without sending me for and xray or doing test to make sure he knows everything that is going on with me. I would highly recommend him and will continue to go to him as long as I live in this area. His office is quite a way from where I live but as long as I can make it there I will definitely recommend him to anyone. A head of a medical department recommend him to me to start with and I have continued with him for about 15 years.

I was a patient of Dr. Bloom for many years until 2009 when I left Virginia for Vermont after my husband's death. What can I say except I have thought of Dr. Bloom and wished he could still be my doctor. He gave me a level of confidence I have never experienced since. Now in Maryland, the distance is too great but he will remain the best doctor I have ever had.
