Andrew Joel's Online Review Report Card

Very impressed with Dr. Joel. He presented the options for treating my emergency clearly and logically and recommended the surgical option. (We had already done the conservative nonsurgical one.) I had talked to several other physicians and had come around to that view myself, but really appreciated that he had the foresight to put me on the calendar for the next day so if I agreed, surgery could go ahead quickly. The surgery was successful, completely resolved my problem. Virginia Hospital Center has been our go-to for many years and that will continue.

My uncle is a patient of Dr. Joel and I could not recommend him more highly. We saw Dr. Joel at Virginia Urology Group by happen chance, as we had typically seen Dr. Mordkin. I didn't realize the appointment was with someone different, so I was a little surprised and nervous, as someone who doesn't like change - especially for my uncle - but Dr. Joel assured me that he would give us his best and he did just that. What initially was a follow-up to an ongoing enlarged prostate issue, turned into the discovery of a cancerous kidney mass which was ultimately surgically removed. My uncle is autistic so I manage his care, and Dr. Joel was great about communicating with me while still respecting my uncle as his patient and keeping him engaged with plain language. He stayed in touch with all of my uncle's care team leading up to the surgery ,was very timely about responding to messages sent through the portal, and stayed engaged throughout the process - even calling from the OR at one point.

I've now seen Dr. Joel for several years and I could not be more satisfied. He is an excellent doctor and a fine person who listens carefully and provides excellent care.

Dr. Joel is a highly competent and caring surgeon. He is not only extremely knowledgeable but is an exceptionally good communicator. You can tell he really respects and cares about his patients. Unfortunately the organization of the office, at least when I was there in 2019, was sub-optimal. It’s an extremely busy practice so access to doctors was limited. I mostly had to deal with nurse practitioners whose competence and attitude left a great deal to be desired.

Dr. Joel is an excellent doctor. No wonder he is in Best Doctors (Washingtonian), Best Doctors (Northern Virginia) & Best Doctors (Arlington)

Overall unhappy about the office and procedure. About a year and half later and I am still encountering pain. This can happen with this procedure but he seemed to be dumbfounded each time I saw him. When I finally saw a specialist he did an ultrasound and was able to see the issue. I recommended an ultrasound to dr Joel and he said it wouldn’t help but did one anyways and nothing came up because a ...

Excellent doctor. Treated my father for different issues, performed stent replacement surgery. Kind, compassionate, respectful. Professional. Treatment was carefully chosen and worked from the first time. Surgery went well and was done with all peculiarities we asked for. We were happy to find such a true expert as Dr Joel!

Waited over 6 weeks for the appointment. When the time came, Dr Joel stood outside working on a different case, dictating notes and sent in his freshly graduated understudy. When I knew I would be dealt by the intern resident I specifically asked the Dr to see me. Interestingly, the recommendations from the resident were a complete 180 from what the Dr recommended. If I had walked away with the resident's recommendations I probably would have gone home with the wrong treatment.

Called in, and they dont even take medicaid, at first youd think okay that must be because the medicaid doesnt cover for whatever reason but no upon further research the reason they deny you medical help is due to profit, they dont get high enough amount of money so they decline you outright. Medical help <profit apparently no matter what it seems
