List of Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Arlington's Reviews
I had a very disappointing experience with Thriveworks. First, the intake session rate was $395 per hour, but I was not informed of this in advance. My intake session lasted only about 30 minutes and mostly involved basic background questions. I did not feel that any meaningful value or therapeutic support was provided. Second, when I contacted the billing team to understand the charges, they told me that my insurance had already paid $353.67 for the intake session and a follow up session, yet I was still required to pay an additional $216.43. When I asked why the hourly rate was so high, the billing representative told me to contact the therapist directly. I then contacted the therapist, and she told me to reach out to the billing team. After I explained that I had already done that, she said she would report the issue to her boss. When I followed up two days later, she said her boss had not responded and that the matter had been sent back to the billing team. When I contacted the billing team again, they attempted to shift responsibility to my insurance company. During the process of trying to resolve the billing issue, I was charged $216.43 without my permission. Both the therapy service and the customer service were very frustrating. I originally hoped to reduce stress by seeing a therapist, but this experience created additional stress and unnecessary trouble. I would not recommend Thriveworks to anyone looking for a reliable therapy provider.
I really like Michelle Swanson, just within 2 visits I have really felt a difference in my mood and behaviors just feeling lighter. She is easy going, I feel really comfortable with her its not like any therapy Ive had before - which is why I was nervous about this I had bad experiences with zoom call therapy in the past - where as this just feels like shes actually listening and giving advice and I really recommend her at Thriveworks. BEST decision Ive made in a long time. Thank you I'm appreciative of businesses like Thriveworks they really give the best therapist to patient experience. I recommend.
I normally don’t leave reviews, but I feel like people should know what happened to me. I had an appointment scheduled with Thriveworks, but over the weekend I got sick with food poisoning. I also had an important job interview that had to be rescheduled to the same time as my therapy session. As soon as I realized the conflict, I immediately contacted Thriveworks to reschedule, not cancel. They told me they have a 48-hour cancellation policy and that because I didn’t give enough notice, I would be charged $135. I explained that I wasn’t trying to skip the appointment — I was genuinely sick, trying to manage a job interview, and dealing with ADHD, which makes scheduling and time management harder. I asked for flexibility or a one-time exception. They refused. For a company that works with people dealing with mental health issues, trauma, ADHD, anxiety, and real-life emergencies, I expected more compassion and understanding. Instead, I felt like the policy was applied in an extremely rigid way, without any regard for circumstances or disability-related needs. Charging someone on Medicaid $135 for trying to reschedule — not skip — feels inaccessible and honestly out of touch with the reality of the population they claim to serve. I’m sharing this so others know what to expect. The therapists themselves may be wonderful, but the corporate policies leave zero room for real life, emergencies, or the challenges that come with mental health conditions. That’s not the supportive or flexible care I hoped for.
Good session. Worth the time. Glad to have someone to talk to.
This is the worst therapy company I’ve ever experienced! They scheduled appointments and didn’t keep them or didn’t tell me where they would be. Then after complaining about they tried to get me to reschedule again!
Cassie was easy to talk to and very kind.
This is the second time the zoom didn’t work and cause me to lose My appointment
I just received a text asking to review my first visit. I rated it one star because it didn’t happen. I was looking for a therapist ASAP and I chose someone who had availability the next day. An hour and a half before the appointment that I so desperately need right now, it was cancelled because apparently availability for next day appointments isn’t accurate. When they sent the cancellation email, I was also told someone would be reaching out later in the day with alternate days/times, which never happened.
Kathryn is amazing at what she does! She’s been helping us through our toughest time lately and I couldnt be more grateful!
Great chat today with Wendy. She provided some insight and gave me things to think anout.

Selection Criteria
All the information you see here is based on our analysis of internet reviews across the seven major review platforms most used by consumers during their healthcare provider selection. The platforms we selected are Google, WebMD, Yelp, HealthGrades, Facebook, RateMDs, and Vitals. The analysis algorithm uses the compiled data of average score, recency of reviews, number of reviews, and the sentiment expressed in the written comments. It then assigns weight to each parameter based on the available research on how consumers use reviews in their doctor selection process. This report is designed to help identify the doctors with the best overall review score in an area and does not reflect the doctors' competence.
