Adam Lynn Shimer's Online Review Report Card

I had great parents but I inherited a bit of both their spine shapes & deformities. At 63 I am in great health via an activity level but do have spine issues in all 3 sections. I have had lumbar TLiff double layer fusion in 2017 & have now found Dr. Schimer. I live in an area where medical care is about at a C+ level and for my more serious issues, I need to travel to find the "A game" specialists. I'm preparing for multiple levels cervical disc replacement next month & what I have learned throughout my experience with Dr. Schimer & his staff is this: his direct staff while overworked, are the kindest & most compassionate folks that I have met in the field,2) UVA has a sincere spirit of appreciation for each patient in their clinic, Dr. Schimer keeps up with & in many cases leads in advancing cervical spine care, and last but not least, Dr. Schimer & his nurses are eager to serve and help their fellow man....a rare find indeed!

Dr. Shimer Has performed surgery on me twice. Once in 2014 And again in 2022. He is one of the kindest and caring Doctors I have ever met in my life. He knows I am tough, but he also understands I have a really bad back. I cannot say enough about this man. I am quite certain that if Dr Shimer didn’t help me, I would be in a wheelchair and constant pain. If you need to have back surgery, Head directly for UVA and this doctor. God bless him and all that work with him. They are truly my guardian angels.

Doctor Shimer was the second spinal doctor I visited. He spent a significant amount of time listening to me and after evaluating my MRI, suggested a plan which included finishing my treatment with the first doctor which he thought was unlikely to resolve my disc issue and scheduled surgery as he believed the severe issue could only be resolved by surgery. This approach was significantly different than Doctor #1 who was of the opinion that I may have to live with the pain associated with my disc issue and was focused on pain management rather than a solution to the core issue. After completing the treatment with doctor #1 and seeing absolutely no improvemnet I kept my surgical appointment with Dr. Shimer. The surgery went extremely well and my issue was immediately resolved. That evening I was walking normally, had absolutely no pain, & no bleeding from the incision site. Dr. Shimer's analysis of my disc issue and expert surgery was the exact medicine I needed. Thank you Dr. Shimer

Six years after my first fusion, I went to see Dr. Shimer. I had suffered for several years with lower pain, again. Dr. Shimer was so confident that he could fix "that" and introduced me to a technology using cadaver bone. He was attentive and precise on all accounts, giving me confidence in him, as well. My last follow-up was this week and Dr. Shimer and his staff gave me relief beyond imagination. I refer to my spine as part of the "living walking dead!" I would recommend him to anyone with stenosis.

I would like to say thank you to you and your staff but most of all I want to say I appreciate you I believed in you and I trusted you because you listen to me and you were straight up with me and you did what you said you was going to do I'm not 100% but I'm way better than I was just being able to walk from my bed to my bathroom to my kitchen I'm thankful for what all you have done and tried to do I just want to say when I was at the last ending of the road for me because I had gave up I have been suffering ever since 2010 going to doctors going to therapist going to specialist isn't trying to figure out what's wrong what's going on each year I was losing more and more mobility but no doctors wouldn't listen I just want to tell you I really really truly appreciate all that you and your team don't for me and that will continue on as this journey of mines in this back heeling and get better words cannot describe how I feel and I will always be thankful and grateful for you helping me ....your buddy Miss Trent 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍💌💌💌

He knows what he is doing but he is myopic and forgets that he is treating a patient not a condition. He has great hands.

I've been seeing Dr. Shimer for back pain issues for about 7 years. I've also seen him work in the operating room. He's a highly skilled, competent, meticulous, and detail oriented professional. He makes good decisions and he excels at what he does. After guiding me through years of conservative management, he helped me make the decision to proceed with lumbar spine surgery. He made sure I thoroughly understood every part of the plan and gave me a realistic explanation of what outcomes to expect and how my surgery might affect future management options. I'm totally satisfied with the quality of my surgery, we talked about some conservative expectations but I haven't felt this good in years. I feel like I've got my life back. Dr. Shimer done emergency spine surgery on my husband February 21, 2018, he had and abcess on his spine and was hours from death. Dr. Shimer saved his life! I will be forever grateful to Dr. Shimer and his staff and the UVA hospital for taking great care of him for 8 weeks.

Dr. Shimer performed back surgery on my lumbar spine 6 months ago. The results were fantastic. I am back to my old self and can do just about anything I did before. The pain that radiated down my legs is completely gone. I would recommend Dr. Shimer to anyone who may need back surgery. He is a professional and a very skilled physician.

My experience with Dr. Shimer was great! He listened to my questions and carefully explained his answers to my wife and I. His surgical skills are amazing! We were so impressed that when my daughter required back surgery, he was the first choice and we were not disappointed! She is doing fantastic!
