Dr. Ashok Asthagiri is a neurosurgeon practicing, teaching, and conducting research at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. In the spring of 2019, an MRI revealed that I had a large Meningioma tumor “about the size of a handball” in the right side of my brain, and I was referred to Dr. Asthagiri. The tumor was discovered while seeking the cause of a significant loss of vision to my left field of view. In our initial discussion with Dr. Asthagiri, he and my wife and I had an exceptionally detailed discussion of the MRI, the nature of the surgery he proposed, and the risk factors posed by the location of the tumor pressing my optic nerve and attached to the principal vein returning blood from my brain. He warned me it was very unlikely I would fully recover my vision, but that improvement was possible. His surgery was successful, as close to a miracle as I expect to experience in this life. Dr. Asthagiri is wonderful! He performed surgery on my father and not only did an outstanding job in the surgery, but also was extremely patient and informative throughout the entire process with our family. He spent extensive periods of time with our family in advance of the surgery, as well as pre and post op. Dr. Asthagiri is consistently rated as one of the best in his field for a reason!

Dr Asthagiri operated on my sons schwannoma with no nerve damage or side effects. He always took time to explain every detail and answer every question, never making us feel rushed. He has a great personality and connected easily with my son. During surgery he kept us updated often. His team is just as great as he is and always responded to my emails or phone calls in a timely manner!

Dr A has performed 3 sugeries on my daughter, we could not ask for better. He answers her emails any and all questions. We started seeing him at NIH the transferred to UVA with him. We trust his judgement and skill without question. The best in my book.
