After constant leg pain due to severe spinal stenosis and barely able to walk or sleep, I discovered Dr. Chun-Po Yen, a phenomenal neurosurgery specialist who spent over 3 rush-free hours, reviewing MRI images and x-rays, answering all my questions, and discussing every available surgical options. Dr. Yen performed an 8-hour L3-L5 decompression Laminectomy and Spinal Fusion surgery to such great success that I now have my life back and I’m pain free walking again. Previous visits with the Orthopedics department at a large local hospital were very frustrating as two separate doctors could do nothing to help my condition except epidural injections (which never worked) and pain meds. One doctor said, “You can’t just roto-rooter in there (my spine)...you could be paralyzed!” It was at this time when I sought out Dr. Yen at UVA who is, in my opinion, a 5 star surgeon.

Dr. Yen is truly an excellent doctor! He honestly cares about his patients. He answers all questions and doesn’t make you feel like he is rushing you! His nurses and staff are also very nice and knowledgeable.

Dr. Yen performed a 6 hour thoracic discectomy on me at UVA. He spent the most time with me of any doctor I have seen and did not force me out of his office. I would trust him to perform any surgery going forward.

Without Dr. Yen, I would not be here. He literally saved my life. Kudos to his entire staff, too. I can not emphasize how wonderful my experience with the UVA Health System has been.

I met Dr. Yen on Aug 3, 2016 ... if/when i need any spine surgery he is my #1 choice. He was very thorough, thoughtful yet honest and compassionate. He really listened to me. He answered all my questions and more. He took lots of time to show and explained my previous and current MRI scans and what was going on with me. When i first walked in his ofc i was very nervous, but must admit, when i walked out, i had total confidence being in Dr. Yen's hands. His staff is also also very friendly too
