Sumit Isharwal's Online Review Report Card

I saw Dr. Isharwal for about a year before having a robotic prostatectomy in November, 2022. Over time, my PSA and biopsies indicated the need for further treatment. Dr. Isharwal also had me see a radiation oncologist before surgery, just to make me aware of other possible treatment options. Dr. Isharwal is a good communicator and patient listener. I regularly peppered him with questions, and he always remained calm and clear. He was comfortable with my recording of our presentations for my later review. Let me add that Dr. Isharwal also has a strong team working with him to deal with every aspect of surgery and recovery. I can only speak about my condition, but my care was excellent and has improved my quality of life immeasurably. I am thankful that he and the UVA team were available to me.

I received a referral to see Dr Isharwal.. He answered All questions.. Very Patient.. knowledgeable..Went over the CT scans..biopsies..I had an obstruction in my right ureter.. Had stents in my bladder.. He saved my right kidney.. I am very thankful I was sent his way.. He is the best & I recommend him to anyone..He is a Blessing..

Great from start to finish!

I had an excellent referral for Dr. Isharwal and the referral was correct. From day one in his office he explains everything and answers all questions. He listens to my concerns and we discuss them. Using the UVA Mychart patient portal, he will respond in a timely manner and he called me from his cell phone one week after the surgery to check on me. I am almost 4 months post surgery and cancer free. He is an excellent surgeon. Thank You.

Dr. Isharwal spent lots of time before surgery explaining my condition and the treatment options. He drew pictures and diagrams to help me understand the procedure. He never rushed me, was always willing to spend the time to answer my questions.

Dr. Isharwal was awesome throughout the entire process of explaining my prostate cancer diagnosis. He explained all the pre surgery procedures clearly and was very detailed concerning the surgery to remove my prostate. Everything went extremely well with the surgery and I am feeling great! Dr Isharwal THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART! YOU ALL SAVED MY LIFE! His staff at UVA Urology Clinic always treated me & my family with respect & patience. I & my family all have hearing loss & I’ve never been in a hospital. Under the circumstances it was very stressful with the pandemic in full effect I was more afraid of that than I was to lose my bladder, prostate & lymph nodes. By blessed grace of the Lord Dr Isharwal was able to remove all cancer & the lymph nodes came back negative so I’m cancer free! To all the staff & special care team for the urostomy teaching for their time & patience for myself as well as my family that was there with me. Karie Wilson you’re name should be spelled Care(y)! You kept me up with everything. Between you & Terran Sims your time is vital and information great & with the added “call of you need anything” & meaning it! Home health made a big difference. They’re working on getting ostomy supplier set up but we’ll get it done! Thank you so much!

Collected, professional, knowledgeable, patient and listens well without interruption, explains procedures in laymen’s term, and great bedside manner. I was always at ease discussing my physical issues. GREAT DOCTOR
